The survey revealed that most of the departments were using some type of alternative funding method, and that the methods they were using were similar to those found in the literature review. The author realized that while there are many alternative funding methods in use, many would not be readily acceptable to the citizens of a rural fire district. Bearing this in mind the author recommended the District attempt to generate additional funding through the following methods: 1. Create a charge for false alarm responses which will encourage maintenance of alarm systems and decrease the number of responses. 2. Create a charge for reinspections required to gain code compliance. 3. Continue to apply for available grants and reimbursement funds. 4. Explore the feasibility of obtaining and one wildland engine for lease to Federal Agencies.
