Numerical Analysis of Viscoelastic Problems

Numerical Analysis of Viscoelastic Problems PDF Author: Patrick Le Tallec
Publisher:
ISBN: 9783540524502
Category : Mathematical physics
Languages : en
Pages : 136

Book Description
The problem of computing the deformations of viscoelastic, viscoplastic or elastoplastic bodies is of great relevance to practical problems e.g. in the numerical modelling of viscoelastic structures of hot metal forming or of polymer melt flows. This book shows how such practical engineering problems may be written as standard problems of functional analysis and how this mathematical framework is used for their analysis and numerical solution. The author looks at the mechanical and the mathematical problem in a unified context, especially for the case of nonlinear Maxwell problems, and gives a mixed discrete formulation for viscoelastic flow problems. Some classical numerical strategies are described as extensions of the mathematical theory. The treatment is restricted to small strain situations (with an introduction to the large strain problem at the end) and to constitute laws of differential type, and will be of interest to researchers and graduate students in mechanical engineering, computer science and applied mathematics.

Computational Inelasticity

Computational Inelasticity PDF Author: J.C. Simo
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 0387227636
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 405

Book Description
A description of the theoretical foundations of inelasticity, its numerical formulation and implementation, constituting a representative sample of state-of-the-art methodology currently used in inelastic calculations. Among the numerous topics covered are small deformation plasticity and viscoplasticity, convex optimisation theory, integration algorithms for the constitutive equation of plasticity and viscoplasticity, the variational setting of boundary value problems and discretization by finite element methods. Also addressed are the generalisation of the theory to non-smooth yield surface, mathematical numerical analysis issues of general return mapping algorithms, the generalisation to finite-strain inelasticity theory, objective integration algorithms for rate constitutive equations, the theory of hyperelastic-based plasticity models and small and large deformation viscoelasticity. Of great interest to researchers and graduate students in various branches of engineering, especially civil, aeronautical and mechanical, and applied mathematics.

Fluid Mechanics of Viscoplasticity

Fluid Mechanics of Viscoplasticity PDF Author: Raja R. Huilgol
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 3030985032
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 405

Book Description
This book considers the kinematics and dynamics of the flows of fluids exhibiting a yield stress. Continuum mechanics governing the fluid mechanics is described. Two chapters are dedicated to analytical solutions to several steady and unsteady flows of viscoplastic fluids, including flows with pressure-dependent rheological parameters. Perturbation methods, variational inequalities to solve fluid flow problems, and the use of energy methods are discussed. Numerical modeling using augmented Lagrangian, operator splitting, finite difference, and lattice Boltzmann methods are employed. The second edition provides new sections on flows of yield stress fluids with pressure-dependent rheological parameters, on flows with wall slip, and on deriving the fundamental equations for Boltzmann lattice materials. Furthermore new material on the lubrication approximation and applications of finite differences has been added.

Plasticity

Plasticity PDF Author: Weimin Han
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1461459400
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 428

Book Description
This book focuses on the theoretical aspects of small strain theory of elastoplasticity with hardening assumptions. It provides a comprehensive and unified treatment of the mathematical theory and numerical analysis. It is divided into three parts, with the first part providing a detailed introduction to plasticity, the second part covering the mathematical analysis of the elasticity problem, and the third part devoted to error analysis of various semi-discrete and fully discrete approximations for variational formulations of the elastoplasticity. This revised and expanded edition includes material on single-crystal and strain-gradient plasticity. In addition, the entire book has been revised to make it more accessible to readers who are actively involved in computations but less so in numerical analysis. Reviews of earlier edition: “The authors have written an excellent book which can be recommended for specialists in plasticity who wish to know more about the mathematical theory, as well as those with a background in the mathematical sciences who seek a self-contained account of the mechanics and mathematics of plasticity theory.” (ZAMM, 2002) “In summary, the book represents an impressive comprehensive overview of the mathematical approach to the theory and numerics of plasticity. Scientists as well as lecturers and graduate students will find the book very useful as a reference for research or for preparing courses in this field.” (Technische Mechanik) "The book is professionally written and will be a useful reference to researchers and students interested in mathematical and numerical problems of plasticity. It represents a major contribution in the area of continuum mechanics and numerical analysis." (Math Reviews)
