Daniel Fouchie Tebbs was born 2 September 1830 in Dumphries, Virginia. His parents were William Henry Tebbs and Lydia Kennedy. He married Susan Ellen Burnes (1845-1921), daughter of Fielding Burnes and Mary Jane Arnold, 31 August 1863 in Platte City, Missouri. They had twelve children. He died in 1900 in Panguitch, Utah.
