Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences

Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences PDF Author: Wade H. Shafer
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1461528321
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 350

Book Description
Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences was first conceived, published, and disseminated by the Center for Information and Numerical Data Analysis and Synthesis (CINDAS) * at Purdue University in 1 957, starting its coverage of theses with the academic year 1955. Beginning with Volume 13, the printing and dissemination phases of the activity were transferred to University Microfilms/Xerox of Ann Arbor, Michigan, with the thought that such an arrangement would be more beneficial to the academic and general scientific and technical community. After five years of this joint undertaking we had concluded that it was in the interest of all con cerned if the printing and distribution of the volumes were handled by an interna tional publishing house to assure improved service and broader dissemination. Hence, starting with Volume 18, Masters Theses in the Pure and Applied Sciences has been disseminated on a worldwide basis by Plenum Publishing Cor poration of New York, and in the same year the coverage was broadened to include Canadian universities. All back issues can also be ordered from Plenum. We have reported in Volume 36 (thesis year 1991) a total of 11,024 thesis titles from 23 Canadian and 161 United States universities. We are sure that this broader base for these titles reported will greatly enhance the value of this important annual reference work. While Volume 36 reports theses submitted in 1991, on occasion, certain univer sities do report theses submitted in previous years but not reported at the time.

Freeze-Thaw Durability of Concrete

Freeze-Thaw Durability of Concrete PDF Author: J. Marchand
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 0203627091
Category : Architecture
Languages : en
Pages : 323

Book Description
Concrete durability in climates where freezing and thawing occurs is a continuing problem. It is particularly acute for highway and bridge structures, where de-icing salts are used to combat the effects of frost, snow and ice. These salts can cause damage to concrete and accelerate corrosion of reinforcements. This book presents the latest international research on this area, with contributions from North America and Europe which were presented at an international RILEM workshop.

Book Description
This report presents freeze-thaw durability results of an investigation regarding the application of high performance concrete (HPC) to prestressed bridge girders. This study included a total of 30 concrete mixes and more than 130 specimens, with the following variables: aggregate type: round river gravel, partially-crushed gravel, granite, high-absorption limestone, and low-absorption limestone; cementitious material composition: Type III portland cement only, 20% fly ash, 7.5% silica fume, and combination of 20% fly ash with 7.5% silica fume replacement by weight of cement; and curing condition: heat-cured or seven-day moist-cured.

Freeze-Thaw Durability of Nonair-Entrained High Strength Concretes Containing Superplasticizers

Freeze-Thaw Durability of Nonair-Entrained High Strength Concretes Containing Superplasticizers PDF Author: SM. Khalil
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Admixtures
Languages : en
Pages : 11

Book Description
Superplasticizing chemical admixtures enable the production of either flowing concrete or concrete with normal workability with very low water/cement (W/C) ratios. The production of low W/C ratio concrete with high strength is of considerable interest to the precast concrete industry. However, it has often proved very difficult, when using superplasticizing chemical admixtures, to entrain an adequate air void system in these low W/C ratio concretes, giving rise to uncertainty regarding the freeze-thaw durability of such concretes. Using ASTM Test for Critical Dilation of Concrete Specimens Subjected to Freezing (C 671 - 77) and Test for Resistance of Concrete to Rapid Freezing and Thawing (C 666 - 77), it is shown that the durability of low W/C ratio, nonair-entrained concrete containing superplasticizers is markedly affected by the aggregate source. Tests conducted on concrete batched at a number of precast concrete plants in Western Canada show that adequate durability may be achieved with some of the principal aggregate sources currently used in precast concrete production.
