Free Radical Chain Reactions in Organic Synthesis

Free Radical Chain Reactions in Organic Synthesis PDF Author: William B. Motherwell
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 0080924956
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 289

Book Description
Written for both the experienced practitioner and the newcomer, this book provides essential guidance to the practical aspects of free radical chain reactions. The book presents tried and tested synthetic schemes as well as a selection of recently developed methods describing rationally designed, highly efficient syntheses giving high yield interconversions of functional groups and carbon*b1carbon bond formation under mild, neutral conditions. Written by two experienced practitioners in the field, this volume explodes the myth that free radicals are highly reactive, non-selective intermediates. Contains an extensive introduction discussing principles, advantages, and disadvantages of radical chain reactions Demonstrates functional group interconversions by radical chain reactions Lists carbon*b1carbon bond formations Presents inter- and intramolecular radical chain reactions Includes many examples and experimental details selected by experienced practitioners in this field

Advanced Free Radical Reactions for Organic Synthesis

Advanced Free Radical Reactions for Organic Synthesis PDF Author:
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 0080524257
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 271

Book Description
Free radical reactions have become increasingly important and a very attractive tool in organic synthesis in the last two decades, due to their powerful, selective, specific, and mild reaction abilities. Advanced Free Radical Reactions for Organic Synthesis reviews information on all types of practical radical reactions, e.g. cyclizations, additions, hydrogen-atom abstractions, decarboxylation reactions. The book usefully provides experimental details for the most important reactions as well as numerous references to the original literature. By covering both the fundamentals and synthetic applications it is therefore suitable for both new and experienced researchers, chemists, biochemists, natural product chemists and graduate students. This title is the definitive guide to radical chemistry for all scientists. Introduces and reviews the use of radicals to perform synthetic transformations Practical details are provided for the most important methods Numerous references to the original literature

Free Radicals in Organic Chemistry

Free Radicals in Organic Chemistry PDF Author: Jacques Fossey
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en

Book Description
Free radicals constitute the most frequently used class of reaction intermediates in organic chemistry. This study describes the structure and reactivity of free radicals, and explores their role in both natural phenomena and in the design of new reaction pathways.

An Introduction to Free Radical Chemistry

An Introduction to Free Radical Chemistry PDF Author: Andrew F. Parsons
Publisher: Wiley-Blackwell
ISBN: 9780632052929
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 252

Book Description
The past twenty years has seen an explosion of interest in free radicals, as their pivotal role in both chemistry and biology has come to light. This introductory textbook aims to capture this excitement for advanced level undergraduates, with particular emphasis on the importance of radical reactions in organic synthesis. The book provides a gentle, stepwise introduction to the subject, taking the student from the basic principles of radical reactions through to their applications in industry and their role in biological and environmental processes, allowing the relevance of the subject to be grasped more easily. Suitable for advanced level undergraduates and postgraduates in chemistry and biochemistry, the book will also be invaluable for research level scientists requiring an update in the area.

Free Radicals in Synthesis and Biology

Free Radicals in Synthesis and Biology PDF Author: F. Minisci
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 9400908970
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 487

Book Description
Free-radical reactions have been for long time the domain of the physical chemists and the basic chemical industry (polymerization of vinyl monomers, oxidation by molecular oxygen, chlorination of methane etc.), where the use of simple molecules and the possibility of partial conversions without heavy problems of product separations makes less dramatic the aspects of regio and chemoselectivity. As synonym of unselectivity, free radical reactions were considered of poor use in the synthesis of fine chemicals or sophisticated molecules, where a high selectivity is an essential condition for the success, or in the involvement of biological processes. Within the last 15 years, however, an authentic explosion of synthetic applications of free radical reactions occurred; they have gained a remarkable position among the selective methods of synthesis. At the same time the great importance of free radical reactions in fundamental biological processes and in the metabolism of drugs has been recognized. Thus a specialized meeting on these topics was generally felt appropriate. I had the honour and the onus to organize this workshop because for more than 30 years I have been involved in the research of free radical reactions. Thanks to a generous grant from NATO Scientific Affairs Division and the financial support of CNR and chemical industry (Montedison, Enichem, Zambon) such a meeting among almost 50 specialists and 15 observers of sufficient standard to take advantage of the discussion, became possible at Bardolino (Italy).
