Fundamentals of Mathematical Physics

Fundamentals of Mathematical Physics PDF Author: Edgar A. Kraut
Publisher: Courier Corporation
ISBN: 0486458091
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 482

Book Description
Indispensable for students of modern physics, this text provides the necessary background in mathematics for the study of electromagnetic theory and quantum mechanics. Clear discussions explain the particulars of vector algebra, matrix and tensor algebra, vector calculus, functions of a complex variable, integral transforms, linear differential equations, and partial differential equations. This volume collects under one cover the mathematical ideas formerly available only by taking many separate courses. It offers in-depth treatments, with a minimum of mathematical formalism. Suitable for students of physics, allied sciences, and engineering, its only prerequisites are a course in introductory physics and a course in calculus. Examples at the end of each chapter reinforce many important techniques developed in the text, and numerous graded problems make this volume suitable for independent study.

Within the Frame

Within the Frame PDF Author: David duChemin
Publisher: New Riders
ISBN: 032171685X
Category : Photography
Languages : en
Pages : 272

Book Description
Within the Frame is a book about finding and expressing your photographic vision, specifically where people, places, and cultures are concerned. A personal book full of real-world wisdom and incredible images, author David duChemin (of pixelatedimage.com) shows you both the how and the why of finding, chasing, and expressing your vision with a camera to your eye. Vision leads to passion, and passion is a cornerstone of great photography. With it, photographs draw the eye in and create an emotional experience. Without it, a photograph is often not worth—and can’t capture—a viewer’s attention. Both instructional and inspirational, Within the Frame helps you on your photographic journey to make better images of the places and people you love, whether they are around the world or in your own backyard. duChemin covers how to tell stories, and the technology and tools we have at our disposal in order to tell those narratives. Most importantly, he stresses the crucial theme of vision when it comes to photographing people, places, and cultures—and he helps you cultivate and find your own vision, and then fit it within the frame.

Advanced Analysis and Design of Steel Frames

Advanced Analysis and Design of Steel Frames PDF Author: Gou-Qiang Li
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
ISBN: 9780470319932
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 392

Book Description
Steel frames are used in many commercial high-rise buildings, as well as industrial structures, such as ore mines and oilrigs. Enabling construction of ever lighter and safer structures, steel frames have become an important topic for engineers. This book, split into two parts covering advanced analysis and advanced design of steel frames, guides the reader from a broad array of frame elements through to advanced design methods such as deterministic, reliability, and system reliability design approaches. This book connects reliability evaluation of structural systems to advanced analysis of steel frames, and ensures that the steel frame design described is founded on system reliability. Important features of the this book include: fundamental equations governing the elastic and elasto-plastic equilibrium of beam, sheer-beam, column, joint-panel, and brace elements for steel frames; analysis of elastic buckling, elasto-plastic capacity and earthquake-excited behaviour of steel frames; background knowledge of more precise analysis and safer design of steel frames against gravity and wind, as well as key discussions on seismic analysis. theoretical treatments, followed by numerous examples and applications; a review of the evolution of structural design approaches, and reliability-based advanced analysis, followed by the methods and procedures for how to establish practical design formula. Advanced Design and Analysis of Steel Frames provides students, researchers, and engineers with an integrated examination of this core civil and structural engineering topic. The logical treatment of both advanced analysis followed by advanced design makes this an invaluable reference tool, comprising of reviews, methods, procedures, examples, and applications of steel frames in one complete volume.

Explorations in Linguistic Relativity

Explorations in Linguistic Relativity PDF Author: Martin Pütz
Publisher: John Benjamins Publishing
ISBN: 9027237069
Category : Language Arts & Disciplines
Languages : en
Pages : 386

Book Description
About a century after the year Benjamin Lee Whorf (1897–1941) was born, his theory complex is still the object of keen interest to linguists. Rencently, scholars have argued that it was not his theory complex itself, but an over-simplified, reduced section taken out of context that has become known as the Sapir-Whorf hypothesis that has met with so much resistance among linguists over the last few decades. Not only did Whorf present his views much more subtly than most people would believe, but he also dealt with a great number of other issues in his work. Taking Whorf's own notion of linguistic relativity as a starting point, this volume explores the relation between language, mind and experience through its historical development, Whorf's own writing, its misinterpretations, various theoretical and methodological issues and a closer look at a few specific issues in his work.
