Book Description
Experimental tests of QCD processes, in particular fragmentation, underlying event and jet shape studies, are not only essential in their own right to allow an improved understanding of the theoretical models and their limitations but they are also important in searches for new physics. Recent results of such tests are presented here. All the results show good agreement between the latest theoretical models or Monte Carlo predictions.

New Results on Jet Fragmentation at CDF.

New Results on Jet Fragmentation at CDF. PDF Author: Sergo Jindariani
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 3

Book Description
Presented are the latest results of jet fragmentation studies at the Tevatron using the CDF Run II detector. Studies include the distribution of transverse momenta (Kt) of particles jets, two-particle momentum correlations, and indirectly global event shapes in p{bar p} collisions. Results are discussed within the context of recent Next-to-Leading Log calculations as well as earlier experimental results from the Tevatron and e{sup +}e{sup -} colliders.

At the Leading Edge

At the Leading Edge PDF Author: Dan Green
Publisher: World Scientific
ISBN: 9814277614
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 445

Book Description
Too often descriptions of detectors focus on the "what" and not the "why." This volume aims to elucidate how the requirements of the physics at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) define the detector environment. In turn, the detector choices are made to adopt to that environment. The goal of LHC physics is to explore the mechanism for electroweak symmetry breaking. Because of the minuscule cross-sections which need to be explored, 0.1 fb, the LHC needs to provide 100 fb-1/yr, or an instantaneous luminosity of 1034 / (cm2 sec). With a bunch crossing interval of 25 nsec, well matched to detector speeds, there will be 25 events occupying each bunch crossing. Thus the physics requires fast, finely segmented, low noise and radiation resistant detectors which provide redundant measurements of the rarely produced electrons and muons. To achieve those goals, new ground was broken in constructing the A Toroidal LHC Apparatus (ATLAS) and Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS) detectors in the vertex detectors, tracking systems, calorimetry, strong magnets, muon systems, front end electronics, trigger systems, and in the data acquisition methods used.

Jet Fragmentation Properties at the Tevatron

Jet Fragmentation Properties at the Tevatron PDF Author:

ISBN:
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 8

Book Description
Preliminary CDF results on inclusive momentum distributions of charged particles in high transverse momentum jets produced in {anti p}p collisions at (square root)s=1.8 TeV at the Tevatron are presented and compared with QCD predictions based on the Modified Leading Log Approximation.

Jet Physics and the Underlying Event at the Tevatron

Jet Physics and the Underlying Event at the Tevatron PDF Author: Rick Field
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category :
Languages : en
Pages : 12

Book Description
Tevatron Run 2 results on the inclusive jet cross section (MidPoint and K{sub T} algorithm) and the b-jet and b{bar b}-jet cross section (MidPoint algorithm) are presented and compared with theory. The CDF b-jet {bar b}-jet {Delta}{phi} distribution is compared with theory and with the D0 jet No. 1-jet No. 2 {Delta}{phi} distribution. The understanding and modeling of the ''underlying event'' in Run 2 at the Tevatron is reviewed and new CDF results are presented.

The Black Book of Quantum Chromodynamics — A Primer for the LHC Era

The Black Book of Quantum Chromodynamics — A Primer for the LHC Era PDF Author: John Campbell
Publisher: Oxford University Press
ISBN: 0191014990
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 761

Book Description
The Black Book of Quantum Chromodynamics is an in-depth introduction to the particle physics of current and future experiments at particle accelerators. The book offers the reader an overview of practically all aspects of the strong interaction necessary to understand and appreciate modern particle phenomenology at the energy frontier. It assumes a working knowledge of quantum field theory at the level of introductory textbooks used for advanced undergraduate or in standard postgraduate lectures. The book expands this knowledge with an intuitive understanding of relevant physical concepts, an introduction to modern techniques, and their application to the phenomenology of the strong interaction at the highest energies. Aimed at graduate students and researchers, it also serves as a comprehensive reference for LHC experimenters and theorists. This book offers an exhaustive presentation of the technologies developed and used by practitioners in the field of fixed-order perturbation theory and an overview of results relevant for the ongoing research programme at the LHC. It includes an in-depth description of various analytic resummation techniques, which form the basis for our understanding of the QCD radiation pattern and how strong production processes manifest themselves in data, and a concise discussion of numerical resummation through parton showers, which form the basis of event generators for the simulation of LHC physics, and their matching and merging with fixed-order matrix elements. It also gives a detailed presentation of the physics behind the parton distribution functions, which are a necessary ingredient for every calculation relevant for physics at hadron colliders such as the LHC, and an introduction to non-perturbative aspects of the strong interaction, including inclusive observables such as total and elastic cross sections, and non-trivial effects such as multiple parton interactions and hadronization. The book concludes with a useful overview contextualising data from previous experiments such as the Tevatron and the Run I of the LHC which have shaped our understanding of QCD at hadron colliders.

Deep Inelastic Scattering

Deep Inelastic Scattering PDF Author: Masahiro Kuze
Publisher: World Scientific
ISBN: 9812706704
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 996

Book Description
These proceedings present the most up-to-date status of deep inelastic scattering (DIS) physics. Topics such as structure function measurements and phenomenology, quantum chromodynamics (QCD) studies in DIS and photoproduction, spin physics and diffractive interactions are reviewed in detail, with emphasis on those studies that push the test of QCD and the Standard Model to the limits of their present range of validity, towards both the very high and the very low four-momentum transfers in leptonproton scattering.
