Excerpt from Fourth Report of the Bureau of Mines, 1894 In 1893 the number of locations sold was 63, having an area of acres and realizing in 1892 there were 65 locations sold, the area of which was acres, and the price paid while in 1891 the sales nu nbered 289, having a total area of acres, for which was paid. In the last year however was included a number of sales of loca tions carried out as to price under the terms of the old Act. Nearly all sales of 1894 were made at the reduced prices of the amending Act, which are fifty cents per acre less than prices under The Mines Act 1892, and the aver age price was per acre against an average of for the two preced ing years. And the receipts from rentals greater by or 130 per cent. It will be observed that all but fifteen locations were taken up in the Rainy River district, where the number of leases issued was 112 more than in the previous year and the area of land taken up greater by acres. Of mining lands leased and patented, the total number of locations for which patents and leases were issued last year was 274, embracing a total area of acres, being in excess of the transactions of 1894 by 168 in number and by acres in area.
