Beliefs, Reasoning, and Decision Making

Beliefs, Reasoning, and Decision Making PDF Author: Roger C. Schank
Publisher: Psychology Press
ISBN: 1134781695
Category : Psychology
Languages : en
Pages : 444

Book Description
It is not unusual for a festschrift to include offerings from several areas of study, but it is highly unusual for those areas to cross disciplinary lines. This book, in doing just that, is a testimony to Bob Abelson's impact on the disciplines of social psychology, artificial intelligence and cognitive science, and the applied areas of political psychology and decision-making. The contributors demonstrate that their association with Abelson, whether as students or colleagues, has resulted in an impressive intellectual cross-fertilization.

Connectionist, Statistical and Symbolic Approaches to Learning for Natural Language Processing

Connectionist, Statistical and Symbolic Approaches to Learning for Natural Language Processing PDF Author: Stefan Wermter
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 9783540609254
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 490

Book Description
This book is based on the workshop on New Approaches to Learning for Natural Language Processing, held in conjunction with the International Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence, IJCAI'95, in Montreal, Canada in August 1995. Most of the 32 papers included in the book are revised selected workshop presentations; some papers were individually solicited from members of the workshop program committee to give the book an overall completeness. Also included, and written with the novice reader in mind, is a comprehensive introductory survey by the volume editors. The volume presents the state of the art in the most promising current approaches to learning for NLP and is thus compulsory reading for researchers in the field or for anyone applying the new techniques to challenging real-world NLP problems.

Understanding Language Understanding

Understanding Language Understanding PDF Author: Ashwin Ram
Publisher: MIT Press
ISBN: 9780262181921
Category : Language Arts & Disciplines
Languages : en
Pages : 524

Book Description
This book highlights cutting-edge research relevant to the building of a computational model of reading comprehension, as in the processing and understanding of a natural language text or story. The book takes an interdisciplinary approach to the study of reading, with contributions from computer science, psychology, and philosophy. Contributors cover the theoretical and psychological foundations of the research in discussions of what it means to understand a text, how one builds a computational model, and related issues in knowledge representation and reasoning. The book also addresses some of the broader issues that a natural language system must deal with, such as reading in context, linguistic novelty, and information extraction.

Natural Language Processing and Computational Linguistics 2

Natural Language Processing and Computational Linguistics 2 PDF Author: Mohamed Zakaria Kurdi
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
ISBN: 1848219210
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 323

Book Description
Natural Language Processing (NLP) is a scientific discipline which is found at the intersection of fields such as Artificial Intelligence, Linguistics, and Cognitive Psychology. This book presents in four chapters the state of the art and fundamental concepts of key NLP areas. Are presented in the first chapter the fundamental concepts in lexical semantics, lexical databases, knowledge representation paradigms, and ontologies. The second chapter is about combinatorial and formal semantics. Discourse and text representation as well as automatic discourse segmentation and interpretation, and anaphora resolution are the subject of the third chapter. Finally, in the fourth chapter, I will cover some aspects of large scale applications of NLP such as software architecture and their relations to cognitive models of NLP as well as the evaluation paradigms of NLP software. Furthermore, I will present in this chapter the main NLP applications such as Machine Translation (MT), Information Retrieval (IR), as well as Big Data and Information Extraction such as event extraction, sentiment analysis and opinion mining.

Information Extraction: Algorithms and Prospects in a Retrieval Context

Information Extraction: Algorithms and Prospects in a Retrieval Context PDF Author: Marie-Francine Moens
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1402049935
Category : Language Arts & Disciplines
Languages : en
Pages : 255

Book Description
This book covers content recognition in text, elaborating on past and current most successful algorithms and their application in a variety of settings: news filtering, mining of biomedical text, intelligence gathering, competitive intelligence, legal information searching, and processing of informal text. Today, there is considerable interest in integrating the results of information extraction in retrieval systems, because of the demand for search engines that return precise answers to flexible information queries.

Integration of Information Extraction with Machine Learning Techniques for Text Mining

Integration of Information Extraction with Machine Learning Techniques for Text Mining PDF Author: A. Christy
Publisher: Vandana Publications
ISBN: 9390728460
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 65

Book Description
Text Mining is a convergent field of Data Mining which deals with extracting relevant and useful part of the information from unstructured text documents and storing them in the structured form. The research work on Information Extraction started in 1979, by a Ph.D thesis submitted at Yale University. But, Information Extraction has got its focus only in 1990s by a series of Message Understanding Conferences conducted by US defense group, DARPA. Information Extraction is preferred by researchers because of its ability to extract specific part of the information with its timely delivery to decision makers and end-users. Information Extraction focusses on extracting the entities and facts from technical websites. The technical web pages often exist in the semi-structured form, in which each and every part of the content is stored as a block of information. Existing Supervised and Unsupervised learning algorithms are reviewed and new algorithms are proposed and implemented for extracting facts and entities from technical websites.

The Semantics of Relationships

The Semantics of Relationships PDF Author: R. Green
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 9401700737
Category : Computers
Languages : en
Pages : 237

Book Description
The genesis of this volume was the participation of the editors in an ACMlSIGIR (Association for Computing Machinery/Special Interest Group on Information Retrieval) workshop entitled "Beyond Word Relations" (Hetzler, 1997). This workshop examined a number of relationship types with significance for information retrieval beyond the conventional topic-matching relationship. From this shared participation came the idea for an edited volume on relationships, with chapters to be solicited from researchers and practitioners throughout the world. Ultimately, one volume became two volumes. The first volume, Relationships in the Organization of Knowledge (Bean & Green, 200 I), examines the role of relationships in knowledge organization theory and practice, with emphasis given to thesaural relationships and integration across systems, languages, cultures, and disciplines. This second volume examines relationships in a broader array of contexts. The two volumes should be seen as companions, each informing the other. As with the companion volume, we are especially grateful to the authors who willingly accepted challenges of space and time to produce chapters that summarize extensive bodies of research. The value of the volume clearly resides in the quality of the individual chapters. In naming this volume The Semantics of Relationships: An Interdisciplinary Perspective, we wanted to highlight the fact that relationships are not just empty connectives. Relationships constitute important conceptual units and make significant contributions to meaning.
