Excerpt from Forty-Seventh Annual Report of the Trustees of the Perkins Institution and Massachusetts School for the Blind: For the Year Ending September 30, 1878 The meeting was called to order by the president, Dr. Samuel Eliot, at four o'clock p.m. The minutes of the last annual meeting were read by the secretary and declared approved. The report of the trustees and that of the director were presented, accepted and ordered to be printed. The treasurer, Mr. Henry Endicott, read his report, the acceptance of which was followed by the election of officers for the ensuing year. It was then voted that the second by-law be amended, so that the annual meeting of the corporation shall hereafter be held on the second instead of the first Wednesday in October. This concluded the usual business, and the members of the corporation then proceeded to the reception-room, where a marble bust of Dr. Howe was presented to them by the director on the part of Mr. George W. Wales, now absent in Europe. The president. Dr. Samuel Eliot, in accepting the gift in behalf of the corporation, spoke as follows: - "Mr. Director, I am sure that the corporation are not content to receive the gift of this bust in silence.
