Handbook of Mathematical Formulas and Integrals

Handbook of Mathematical Formulas and Integrals PDF Author: Alan Jeffrey
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 1483295141
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 449

Book Description
If there is a formula to solve a given problem in mathematics, you will find it in Alan Jeffrey's Handbook of Mathematical Formulas and Integrals. Thanks to its unique thumb-tab indexing feature, answers are easy to find based upon the type of problem they solve. The Handbook covers important formulas, functions, relations, and methods from algebra, trigonometric and exponential functions, combinatorics, probability, matrix theory, calculus and vector calculus, both ordinary and partial differential equations, Fourier series, orthogonal polynomials, and Laplace transforms. Based on Gradshteyn and Ryzhik's Table of Integrals, Series, and Products, Fifth Edition (edited by Jeffrey), but far more accessible and written with particular attention to the needs of students and practicing scientists and engineers, this book is an essential resource. Affordable and authoritative, it is the first place to look for help and a rewarding place to browse. Special thumb-tab index throughout the book for ease of use Answers are keyed to the type of problem they solve Formulas are provided for problems across the entire spectrum of Mathematics All equations are sent from a computer-checked source code Companion to Gradshteyn: Table of Integrals, Series, and Products, Fifth Edition The following features make the Handbook a Better Value than its Competition: Less expensive More comprehensive Equations are computer-validated with Scientific WorkPlace(tm) and Mathematica(r) Superior quality from one of the most respected names in scientific and technical publishing Offers unique thumb-tab indexing throughout the book which makes finding answers quick and easy

Theorems and Counterexamples in Mathematics

Theorems and Counterexamples in Mathematics PDF Author: Bernard R. Gelbaum
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1461209935
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 339

Book Description
The gratifying response to Counterexamples in analysis (CEA) was followed, when the book went out of print, by expressions of dismay from those who were unable to acquire it. The connection of the present volume with CEA is clear, although the sights here are set higher. In the quarter-century since the appearance of CEA, mathematical education has taken some large steps reflected in both the undergraduate and graduate curricula. What was once taken as very new, remote, or arcane is now a well-established part of mathematical study and discourse. Consequently the approach here is designed to match the observed progress. The contents are intended to provide graduate and ad vanced undergraduate students as well as the general mathematical public with a modern treatment of some theorems and examples that constitute a rounding out and elaboration of the standard parts of algebra, analysis, geometry, logic, probability, set theory, and topology. The items included are presented in the spirit of a conversation among mathematicians who know the language but are interested in some of the ramifications of the subjects with which they routinely deal. Although such an approach might be construed as demanding, there is an extensive GLOSSARY jlNDEX where all but the most familiar notions are clearly defined and explained. The object ofthe body of the text is more to enhance what the reader already knows than to review definitions and notations that have become part of every mathematician's working context.

Theory and Applications of Some New Classes of Integral Equations

Theory and Applications of Some New Classes of Integral Equations PDF Author: Alexander G. Ramm
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Integral equations
Languages : en
Pages : 374

Book Description
This book is intended for &tudents, research engineers, and mathematicians interested in applications or numerical analysis. Pure analysts will also find some new problems to tackle. Most of the material can be understood by a reader with a relatively modest knowledge of differential and inte gral equations and functional analysis. Readers interested in stochastic optimization will find a new theory of prac tical . importance. Readers interested in problems of static and quasi-static electrodynamics, wave scattering by small bodies of arbitrary shape, and corresponding applications in geophysics, optics, and radiophysics will find explicit analytical formulas for the scattering matrix, polarizability tensor, electrical capacitance of bodies of an arbitrary shape; numerical examples showing the practical utility of these formulas; two-sided variational estimates for the pol arizability tensor; and some open problems such as working out a standard program for calculating the capacitance and polarizability of bodies of arbitrary shape and numerical calculation of multiple integrals with weak singularities. Readers interested in nonlinear vibration theory will find a new method for qualitative study of stationary regimes in the general one-loop passive nonlinear network, including stabil ity in the large, convergence, and an iterative process for calculation the stationary regime. No assumptions concerning the smallness of the nonlinearity or the filter property of the linear one-port are made. New results in the theory of nonlinear operator equations form the basis for the study.

Formulas and Theorems for the Special Functions of Mathematical Physics

Formulas and Theorems for the Special Functions of Mathematical Physics PDF Author: Wilhelm Magnus
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3662117614
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 516

Book Description
This is a new and enlarged English edition of the book which, under the title "Formeln und Satze fur die Speziellen Funktionen der mathe matischen Physik" appeared in German in 1946. Much of the material (part of it unpublished) did not appear in the earlier editions. We hope that these additions will be useful and yet not too numerous for the purpose of locating .with ease any particular result. Compared to the first two (German) editions a change has taken place as far as the list of references is concerned. They are generally restricted to books and monographs and accomodated at the end of each individual chapter. Occasional references to papers follow those results to which they apply. The authors felt a certain justification for this change. At the time of the appearance of the previous edition nearly twenty years ago much of the material was scattered over a number of single contributions. Since then most of it has been included in books and monographs with quite exhaustive bibliographies. For information about numerical tables the reader is referred to "Mathematics of Computation", a periodical publis hed by the American Mathematical Society; "Handbook of Mathe matical Functions" with formulas, graphs and mathematical tables National Bureau of Standards Applied Mathematics Series, 55, 1964, 1046 pp., Government Printing Office, Washington, D.C., and FLETCHER, MILLER, ROSENHEAD, Index of Mathematical Tables, Addison-Wesley, Reading, Mass.) .. There is a list of symbols and abbreviations at the end of the book.
