Play The Forest School Way

Play The Forest School Way PDF Author: Jane Worroll
Publisher: Watkins Media Limited
ISBN: 1780289294
Category : Family & Relationships
Languages : en
Pages : 161

Book Description
Woodland games, crafts, and other outdoor adventures from the Forest School—for parents and their children The rise of the grassroots Forest School movement in recent years is part of a groundswell of concern about the wellbeing of our children, with many media scare stories about child obesity, "nature deficit disorder" (as described in Last Child in the Woods), and lack of exposure to risk. This outdoor adventure manual is the antidote! Packed full of ideas, from making nature jewelry and whittling a bow and arrow, to building a shelter and foraging for food, it also celebrates the Forest School philosophy of encouraging self-esteem, confidence, and social skills through engagement with nature. The activities contain variations for varied age groups, small groups like play dates or birthday parties, as well as things to do with just one or two children. Parents are encouraged to guide the play but the activity instructions are written in a simple style with fun illustrations so that kids can take the lead as well.

Book Description
Excerpt from Forest Nurseries for Schools In, recent years there has been evident a decided movement toward the introduction of nature study and elementary agriculture into the regular work of the public schools. One of the most popular and interesting features of this movement has been the school garden. The large number Of schools, both rural and city, which have estab lished gardens, and the volume of literature which has been con tributed on this subject, attest the importance and success which the school garden has achieved in the educational world. Hitherto most school gardens have been devoted exclusively to the growing of common garden vegetables and flowering plants, with here and there the introduction of new species as an additional incen tive to interest. One of the chief difficulties encountered has been that most of the plants and vegetables suitable for cultivation and demonstration purposes required by the school work mature or reach their most interesting stages at' a season when the school is ordinarily closed for vacation. Another thing which has tended to make much schqyl-garden work somewhat unsatisfactory is that after the work is o ce done no visible, tangible results are evident, and apparently no lasting good is accomplished other than the instruction given and the knowledge Of plant life which may have been acquired. Book Description
In the present era, the man has progressed very rapidly but due to the unending and multifarious, malpractices and manifold increase in human population; the forests are depleted and thus decreased to a vast extent. To increase the area under forest, a good and healthy forest nursery is very important for afforestation/ planting and thus getting good stock for future programme. Thus raising of nursery, of many species of trees grow very slow. If, the seeds are sown directly in the planting-out site, weed infestation may be an acute problem. The foreign/exotic species, e.g. Eucalyptus, Populus, etc. are raised first in nursery and therefore, planted/ transplanted in the field/ planting-out site afterwards. In this book," FOREST NURSERY- How to Raise and Manage" mainly two types of forest nursery have been discussed in details, viz., (a) Bare rooted seedlings nursery and (b) Containerised seedings nursery. The Present Book ," FOREST NURSERY- How to Raise and Manage", is a very sincere attempt to explore the good knowledge and vast information. This book has been written very consciously and earnestly in a very lucid language which can be understood by less educated nursery men. It is very much expected that the present book will prove very helpful in raising and managing the forest Nursery. Moreover, this is a very handy and very informative book for students, teachers, forest scientists, nursery men and all concerned with the subject.
