Book Description
Excerpt from Foreign Crops and Markets, Vol. 76: April 14, 1958 Although production is increasing, it has not been enough to meet requirements in the Union. Expanding domestic use reached million pounds in 1956 and may be more than 30 million in 1957. This shortage, as in the past, may be expected to be made up by imports from the Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland. Flue-cured harvests are increasing rapidly as South African farmers become more familiar with the Orinoco type. The Union expects to have a surplus by 1960. Crops of both light and dark air-cured were below the level of domestic use in 1956, making it necessary to import h.3 million pounds. During 1957, production of both types increased and more nearly covered requirements, and imports of light and dark air-cured declined to million pounds. In 1957, the United States exported million pounds of tobacco, primarily dark air-cured, to the Union. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
