Book Description
Excerpt from Footlight Flashes If there be anything more detestable than writing one's Autobiography, the individual who now essays the task, would be glad to know what it is. This assertion is made fearlessly, and without dread of contradiction; but, if one of my captious readers should consider me unworthy of credit, let him, or her, try the experiment, and allow me to sit in judgment on the document. Everybody has doubtless heard the story of the man who was suffering from a bad cold in his head, protesting to his friend that "there was nothing in the world so bad as a cold in the head!" The friend protested that he was in error, and named as a greater affliction, "two colds in the head." The same may be said of an Autobiography. Nothing can be so bad as one, except the perpetration of two. The life of an actor presents to the youthful and superficial observer, charms of no ordinary degree of interest; for there is no profession that holds so much sway, or takes such firm possession of the youthful mind, as that of acting. Well do I remember loitering when a boy, for hours together at the stage doors of Co vent Garden and Drury Lane Theatres, to watch the actors arrive at, or depart from, those temples of the drama. Book Description
Excerpt from Joe Taylor Barnstormer: His Travels, Troubles and Triumphs During Fifty Years in Footlight Flashes We do not expect this book to stand upon its literary merits. The more particular motive the author has in view will be an accurate summary of the principal events of his career. The illus trations will contribute largely to a ready under standing of the many laughable and eventful situations which may be presented. She Loves Me Not

She Loves Me Not PDF Author: Ron Hansen
Publisher: Simon and Schuster
ISBN: 1451617593
Category : Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 256

Book Description
“Beautifully crafted stories from one of our most honored authors” (The New York Times), Ron Hansen’s She Loves Me Not is an acclaimed collection of stunning fiction, three decades in the writing. Ron Hansen has long been celebrated as a master of both the novel and the short form. His stories have been called “extraordinary” (The New York Times Book Review) and “wise and smart” (The Washington Post). In She Loves Me Not, the subjects of Hansen’s scrutiny range from Oscar Wilde to murder to dementia to romance, and display Hansen at his storytelling best: These are “unforgettable stories, each utterly different from the one before….This is writing that slows the breathing” (San Francisco Chronicle). Readers will thrill to Hansen’s masterful attention to the smallest and most telling details, even as he plunges straight into the deepest recesses of desire, love, fury, and loss. Magisterial in its scope and surprising in its variety, She Loves Me Not shows an author at the height of his powers and confirms Hansen’s place as a major American writer. This breathtaking collection “should put him on the short-story map” (USA TODAY). She Loves Me Not contains an excerpt from Hansen’s new novel, The Kid, to be published in fall, 2016.
