Fold, refold. Deployable narratives and digital fabrication PDF Author: Borrego, Ignacio
Publisher: Universitätsverlag der TU Berlin
ISBN: 3798330689
Category : Architecture
Languages : en
Pages : 144

Book Description
Deployable structures are mobile constructions with a great variety of spacial peculiarity, extent and layout. The documented workshop “Digital Fabrication & Deployable Structures” investigates in their history and tests how those flexible structures can be digitally fabricated and parametrically designed using lasercutting technology. The resulting prototypes were developed in a collaborative process and furthermore functionalized by the embedment into a narrative.

Fold Fly Inflate

Fold Fly Inflate PDF Author: Borrego, Ignacio
Publisher: Universitätsverlag der TU Berlin
ISBN: 3798331537
Category : Architecture
Languages : en
Pages : 168

Book Description
The limitation of available resources and the economic and climatic costs of energy inevitably lead to light constructions as a necessary means of curtailing consumption. The documented workshops “Flying Structures” and "Fold Fly Inflate" investigates and tests how those light structures can be digitally fabricated and parametrically designed using lasercutting and 3D printing technology. The resulting prototypes were developed in a collaborative process.

Folding in Architecture

Folding in Architecture PDF Author: Greg Lynn
Publisher: Academy Press
ISBN: 9780470092187
Category : Architecture
Languages : en
Pages : 0

Book Description
This seminal book from Architectural Design was originally published in 1993, at a time of crucial change and on the eve of the digital revolution. It brought together a series of essays that many believe created the favourable environment in which computer-based design could thrive. Considered one of the most influential architecture publications of the 1990s, this book ranks as a classic and in itself is a crucial chapter of history, though one that has been out of print since 1999. This faithful reprinting includes a substantial new introductory essay by Mario Carpo, Head of the Study Centre at the Canadian Centre for Architecture, which examines the impact of the original texts and their ongoing significance. Thereafter, the book is true to its original content showcasing projects by ground-breaking architects such as Greg Lynn, Jeffrey Kipnis, Bahram Shirdel, Frank Gehry and Philip Johnson.

The DevOps Handbook

The DevOps Handbook PDF Author: Gene Kim
Publisher: IT Revolution
ISBN: 194278807X
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 515

Book Description
Increase profitability, elevate work culture, and exceed productivity goals through DevOps practices. More than ever, the effective management of technology is critical for business competitiveness. For decades, technology leaders have struggled to balance agility, reliability, and security. The consequences of failure have never been greater―whether it's the healthcare.gov debacle, cardholder data breaches, or missing the boat with Big Data in the cloud. And yet, high performers using DevOps principles, such as Google, Amazon, Facebook, Etsy, and Netflix, are routinely and reliably deploying code into production hundreds, or even thousands, of times per day. Following in the footsteps of The Phoenix Project, The DevOps Handbook shows leaders how to replicate these incredible outcomes, by showing how to integrate Product Management, Development, QA, IT Operations, and Information Security to elevate your company and win in the marketplace.

An Anthropological Trompe L'Oeil for a Common World

An Anthropological Trompe L'Oeil for a Common World PDF Author: Alberto Corsín Jiménez
Publisher: Berghahn Books
ISBN: 0857459120
Category : Social Science
Languages : en
Pages : 198

Book Description
Our political age is characterized by forms of description as ‘big’ as the world itself: talk of ‘public knowledge’ and ‘public goods,’ ‘the commons’ or ‘global justice’ create an exigency for modes of governance that leave little room for smallness itself. Rather than question the politics of adjudication between the big and the small, this book inquires instead into the cultural epistemology fueling the aggrandizement and miniaturization of description itself. Incorporating analytical frameworks from science studies, ethnography, and political and economic theory, this book charts an itinerary for an internal anthropology of theorizing. It suggests that many of the effects that social theory uses today to produce insights are the legacy of baroque epistemological tricks. In particular, the book undertakes its own trompe l’oeil as it places description at perpendicular angles to emerging forms of global public knowledge. The aesthetic ‘trap’ of the trompe l’oeil aims to capture knowledge, for only when knowledge is captured can it be properly released.

The Storm of Creativity

The Storm of Creativity PDF Author: Kyna Leski
Publisher: MIT Press
ISBN: 0262330601
Category : Design
Languages : en
Pages : 211

Book Description
The stages of the creative process—from “unlearning” to beginning again—seen through examples from the practice of artists, architects, poets, and others. Although each instance of creativity is singular and specific, Kyna Leski tells us, the creative process is universal. Artists, architects, poets, inventors, scientists, and others all navigate the same stages of the process in order to discover something that does not yet exist. All of us must work our way through the empty page, the blank screen, writer's block, confusion, chaos, and doubt. In this book, Leski draws from her observations and experiences as a teacher, student, maker, writer, and architect to describe the workings of the creative process. Leski sees the creative process as being like a storm; it slowly begins to gather and take form until it overtakes us—if we are willing to let it. It is dynamic, continually in motion; it starts, stops, rages and abates, ebbs and flows. In illustrations that accompany each chapter, she maps the arc of the creative process by tracing the path of water droplets traveling the stages of a storm. Leski describes unlearning, ridding ourselves of preconceptions; only when we realize what we don't know can we pose the problem that we need to solve. We gather evidence—with notebook jottings, research, the collection of objects—propelling the process. We perceive and conceive; we look ahead without knowing where we are going; we make connections. We pause, retreat, and stop, only to start again. To illustrate these stages of the process, Leski draws on examples of creative practice that range from Paul Klee to Steve Jobs, from the discovery of continental drift to the design of Antoni Gaudí's Sagrada Familia. Creativity, Leski tells us, is a path with no beginning or end; it is ongoing. This revelatory view of the creative process will be an essential guide for anyone engaged in creative discovery. Evocative Autoethnography

Evocative Autoethnography PDF Author: Arthur Bochner
Publisher: Routledge
ISBN: 1134815948
Category : Education
Languages : en
Pages : 282

Book Description
This comprehensive text is the first to introduce evocative autoethnography as a methodology and a way of life in the human sciences. Using numerous examples from their work and others, world-renowned scholars Arthur Bochner and Carolyn Ellis, originators of the method, emphasize how to connect intellectually and emotionally to the lives of readers throughout the challenging process of representing lived experiences. Written as the story of a fictional workshop, based on many similar sessions led by the authors, it incorporates group discussions, common questions, and workshop handouts. The book: describes the history, development, and purposes of evocative storytelling; provides detailed instruction on becoming a story-writer and living a writing life; examines fundamental ethical issues, dilemmas, and responsibilities; illustrates ways ethnography intersects with autoethnography; calls attention to how truth and memory figure into the works and lives of evocative autoethnographers.
