Basic Research and Technologies for Two-Stage-to-Orbit Vehicles

Basic Research and Technologies for Two-Stage-to-Orbit Vehicles PDF Author: Dieter Jacob
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
ISBN: 3527605509
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 683

Book Description
Focusing on basic aspects of future reusable space transportation systems and covering overall design, aerodynamics, thermodynamics, flight dynamics, propulsion, materials, and structures, this report presents some of the most recent results obtained in these disciplines. The authors are members of three Collaborative Research Centers in Aachen, Munich and Stuttgart concerned with hypersonic vehicles. A major part of the research presented here deals with experimental and numerical aerodynamic topics ranging from low speed to hypersonic flow past the external configuration and through inlet and nozzle. Mathematicians and engineers jointly worked on aspects of flight mechanics like trajectory optimization, stability, control and flying qualities. Structural research and development was predominantly coupled to the needs for high temperature resistant structures for space vehicles.

Libration Point Orbits And Applications - Proceedings Of The Conference

Libration Point Orbits And Applications - Proceedings Of The Conference PDF Author: Gerard Gomez
Publisher: World Scientific
ISBN: 9814486043
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 695

Book Description
This book presents the state of the art in numerical and analytical techniques as well as future trends associated with mission design for libration point orbits. It contains papers explaining theoretical developments and their applications, including the accurate description of some actual libration point missions of ESA and NASA. The existing software in the field and some applications beyond the neighborhood of the Earth are also presented. Special emphasis is placed on the use of dynamical systems methodology in the libration-point-orbits mission design.

Publisher: AIAA (American Institute of Aeronautics & Astronautics)
ISBN:
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 838

Book Description
This volume is the proceedings of the Atmospheric Flight Mechanics Conference, which took place in New Orleans, August 1997. It focuses on the technical progress, issues and challenges associated with atmospheric flight. Technical papers address stability and control, flying qualities (including one session dedicated to pilot-induced oscillations), unsteady and vortex aerodynamics, system and parameter identification, aircraft flight dynamic re-entry and aero assist technologies, and reusable launch vehicles.

Capture Dynamics and Chaotic Motions in Celestial Mechanics

Capture Dynamics and Chaotic Motions in Celestial Mechanics PDF Author: Edward Belbruno
Publisher: Princeton University Press
ISBN: 069118643X
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 232

Book Description
This book describes a revolutionary new approach to determining low energy routes for spacecraft and comets by exploiting regions in space where motion is very sensitive (or chaotic). It also represents an ideal introductory text to celestial mechanics, dynamical systems, and dynamical astronomy. Bringing together wide-ranging research by others with his own original work, much of it new or previously unpublished, Edward Belbruno argues that regions supporting chaotic motions, termed weak stability boundaries, can be estimated. Although controversial until quite recently, this method was in fact first applied in 1991, when Belbruno used a new route developed from this theory to get a stray Japanese satellite back on course to the moon. This application provided a major verification of his theory, representing the first application of chaos to space travel. Since that time, the theory has been used in other space missions, and NASA is implementing new applications under Belbruno's direction. The use of invariant manifolds to find low energy orbits is another method here addressed. Recent work on estimating weak stability boundaries and related regions has also given mathematical insight into chaotic motion in the three-body problem. Belbruno further considers different capture and escape mechanisms, and resonance transitions. Providing a rigorous theoretical framework that incorporates both recent developments such as Aubrey-Mather theory and established fundamentals like Kolmogorov-Arnold-Moser theory, this book represents an indispensable resource for graduate students and researchers in the disciplines concerned as well as practitioners in fields such as aerospace engineering.
