Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
ISBN: 1118030869
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 408
Book Description
How to apply statistical methods to survey data--a guide toeffective analysis of health surveys. With large health surveys becoming increasingly available forpublic use, researchers with little experience in survey methodsare often faced with analyzing data from surveys to addressscientific and programmatic questions. This practical book providesstatistical techniques for use in survey analysis, making healthsurveys accessible to statisticians, biostatisticians, epidemiologists, and health researchers. The authors clearlyexplain the theory and methods of survey analysis along withreal-world applications. They draw on their work at the NationalInstitutes of Health as well as up-to-date information from acrossthe literature to present: * The sampling background necessary to understand health surveys. * The application of such techniques as t-tests, linear regression, logistic regression, and survival analysis to survey data. * The use of sample weights in survey data analysis. * Dealing with complications in variance estimation in large healthsurveys. * Applications involving cross-sectional, longitudinal, andmultiple cross-sectional surveys, and the use of surveys to performpopulation- based case-control analyses. * Guidance on the correct use of statistical methods found insoftware packages. * Extensive bibliography.

The Wrong End of the Table
Author: Ayser Salman
Publisher: Skyhorse
ISBN: 9781510742079
Category : Humor
Languages : en
Pages : 0
Book Description
An Immigrant Love-Hate Story of What it Means to Be American. "A rare voice that is both relatable and unafraid to examine the complexities of her American identity.” —Reza Aslan, #1 New York Times bestselling author of Zealot: The Life and Times of Jesus of Nazareth You know that feeling of being at the wrong end of the table? Like you’re at a party but all the good stuff is happening out of earshot (#FOMO)? That’s life—especially for an immigrant. What happens when a shy, awkward Arab girl with a weird name and an unfortunate propensity toward facial hair is uprooted from her comfortable (albeit fascist-regimed) homeland of Iraq and thrust into the cold, alien town of Columbus, Ohio—with its Egg McMuffins, Barbie dolls, and kids playing doctor everywhere you turned? This is Ayser Salman’s story. First comes Emigration, then Naturalization, and finally Assimilation—trying to fit in among her blonde-haired, blue-eyed counterparts, and always feeling left out. On her journey to Americanhood, Ayser sees more naked butts at pre-kindergarten daycare that she would like, breaks one of her parents’ rules (“Thou shalt not participate as an actor in the school musical where a male cast member rests his head in thy lap”), and other things good Muslim Arab girls are not supposed to do. And, after the 9/11 attacks, she experiences the isolation of being a Muslim in her own country. It takes hours of therapy, fifty-five rounds of electrolysis, and some ill-advised romantic dalliances for Ayser to grow into a modern Arab American woman who embraces her cultural differences. Part memoir and part how-not-to guide, The Wrong End of the Table is everything you wanted to know about Arabs but were afraid to ask, with chapters such as “Tattoos and Other National Security Risks,” “You Can’t Blame Everything on Your Period; Sometimes You’re Going to Be a Crazy Bitch: and Other Advice from Mom,” and even an open letter to Trump. This is the story of every American outsider on a path to find themselves in a country of beautiful diversity.

Book Description
Graceland's Table is the first cookbook written with the full cooperation of Elvis Presley Enterprises. In addition to recipes from fans for Elvis, the book includes photographs of Elvis at home and full-color food photos taken in Graceland for the book. The 175 recipes in Graceland's Table come from two sources: EPE's archives of Elvis's favorite recipes and Elvis's fans. Fans submitted a recipe they would have liked to cook for Elvis should they have been invited to Graceland for a meal and explained the reason for their choice. Fans were asked to submit recipes linked to a particular song or movie title or person in Elvis's life (e.g. Love Me Chicken Tenders, Colonel Parkerhouse Rolls, Blue Suede Berry Pie). Twelve recipes came from EPE and over 150 from the fans. The book also has 35 B&W photos of Elvis and Graceland and 20 full-color food photos, trivia, and stories by those who knew Elvis such as Joe Esposito, Elvis's road manager, Patty Perry, the only female member of the Memphis Mafia, and Marian Cocke, Elvis's nurse.

Corporate Responsibility and Human Resource Management
Author: Lena Katharina Göbel
Publisher: BoD – Books on Demand
ISBN: 3947095082
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 266
Book Description
In the past 30 years, corporate social responsibility (CSR), including the link between CSR and human resource management (HRM), has entered the agenda of managers and management researchers. In this context, "Responsible HRM" refers to the complete employee lifecycle, focusing on fair and transparent pay allocation and promotion decisions, especially with regard to discrimination based on demographic aspects such as gender, age, and race. Organizations can use Responsible HRM to tackle "grand challenges", such as (gender) inequality, within the organization and beyond, thus contributing to global problem solving. The empirical studies of this dissertation are at the intersection of CSR and HRM. They stress antecedents as well as the impact of CSR and Responsible HRM. Study 1 takes a broad and multifaceted perspective on CSR and its impact on organizational reputation. The remaining three studies focus on Responsible HRM and gender equality: Study 2 uses a comprehensive survey data analysis to explore the effects of the German "Transparency in Wage Structures Act", which aims to reduce the gender pay gap. Study 3 examines antecedents and outcomes of equality-enhancing HRM practices, especially pay transparency, by studying the relationships of works councils and management. Study 4 identifies the organizational advantages of promoting female employees into leadership positions, thus speaking to the problem of inequality in career opportunities.
