The Fishes of India
Fisheries and Aquaculture of the Temperate Himalayas
Author: Pramod Kumar Pandey
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 9811983038
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 489
Book Description
This book covers all aspects of fisheries and aquaculture of the temperate Himalayas, including fisheries resources, fish biodiversity, aquaculture status, prospects, and potential. It also includes mapping of resources, health and disease management of cultured species, feed and nutritional aspects of the cultured fish species, ornamental fisheries aspects, etc. In addition, it elucidates the recent advances in biotechnological interventions for enhancing fisheries and aquaculture productivity in the region. Essential information on the application of Geo Information System (GIS) for resource mapping, the scope of adopting re-circulatory aquaculture system for productivity enhancement, and trout culture in the Himalayan waters are provided in the book. A detailed account of recreational fisheries and fish-based ecotourism in the temperate Himalayas for generating livelihood has been provided. The impact of climate change on the fisheries of the Himalayas has been dealt with separately. The book also covers the conservation and rehabilitation aspects of endangered species of the region. This book will become a ready reference for the scientists, teachers, researchers, students, policymakers, and other stakeholders for managing fishery resources in the temperate Himalayas.

Fishes Around Indian Ocean
Author: Kamakhya Pada Biswas
Publisher:
ISBN: 9788170356202
Category : Fisheries
Languages : en
Pages : 0
Book Description
Indian Ocean harbour about 4000 fish species. Except identifying characters and taxonomic status of the species, it is practically impossible to describe the bionomics of each of the four thousand species, since studies have not been made for all and reliable informations are not available in respect of many uneconomical species. Thus in a dynamic ocean, with so many regional micro-climatic and hydrological changes, many of the commercially important fish species fluctuate in their seasonal inshore migration resulting appearance of huge fish shoals forming a good fishery in some years, while there is a failure of the fishery in other years due to the disappearance of the shoals. Considering this dynamic condition of the sea and the dynamic nature of fish species, regional, area wise, depth wise movement and their assemblage have been described in the book. In the book, besides, describing identifying characters of major groups of fish, details of pelagic commercially important oceanic tuna, biological characteristics of some economically significant species of each of major fish groups have been mentioned with special reference to the seas around Indian Sub-Continent. Occurrence and capture of species forming commercial fishery from seventeen fishing grounds along the Indian coasts have been outlined in the book. Significant details in respect of more than four hundred fish species of economic importance is an additional attraction of the book. The book contain numerous diagrams sketches and photographs.

Coldwater Fisheries and Aquaculture Management
Author: Mohd Ashraf Rather
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 1000842185
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 429
Book Description
This book is a rich resource of important information on coldwater fish farming and coldwater fisheries management, including new research and recent technological advances. It aims to provide an understanding of the underlying mechanisms of coldwater physiology of fishes, which is essential for effective fishery management and for taking advantage of their vast potential application in aquaculture. Coldwater Fisheries and Aquaculture Management: Technology for Sustainable Food Production elaborates on key aspects associated with reproductive biology and endocrinology of coldwater fishes, such as gonadal development and maturation, vitellogenesis, steroidogenesis, whole genome information of fishes, transcriptomics, proteomics, and more. It also looks at genetic modification of coldwater fishes, phytobiotic-based feed to attain profitability in aquaculture, and the nutritional requirements of coldwater fishes, such as plant-based proteins in fish diets and feeding carbohydrates to fish. It also describes the beneficial dietary nutrition of fish consumption by humans. Several chapters address the various challenges to coldwater fish and fishery management, such as fish bacterial diseases (along with their immune components and defense mechanisms), unpredictable nature of climate change on fish, water pollution, etc. The volume also offers strategies on the sustainable management of fish that include looking at pollution in freshwater ecosystems, biotechnological interventions, predicting threats to fish from climate change, and other factors. This volume will be of value to those in fishery management and fish science as well as to marine researchers, faculty and students, and other involved with aquaculture science and management.
