Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 9811067139
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 1181

Book Description
This proceedings volume for the 4th international conference CIGOS 2017 (Congrès International de Géotechnique - Ouvrages - Structures) presents novel technologies, solutions and research advances, making it an excellent guide in civil engineering for researchers, students, and professional engineers alike. Since 2010, CIGOS has become a vital forum for international scientific exchange on civil engineering. It aims to promote beneficial economic partnerships and technology exchanges between enterprises, worldwide institutions and universities. Following the success of the last three CIGOS conferences (2010, 2013 and 2015), the 4th conference was held at Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology, Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), Vietnam on 26 to 27 October 2017. The main scientific themes of CIGOS 2017 were focused on ‘New Challenges in Civil Engineering’.

Structural Engineering, Mechanics and Computation

Structural Engineering, Mechanics and Computation PDF Author: A. Zingoni
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 0080541925
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 1704

Book Description
Following on from the International Conference on Structural Engineering, Mechanics and Computation, held in Cape Town in April 2001, this book contains the Proceedings, in two volumes. There are over 170 papers written by Authors from around 40 countries worldwide. The contributions include 6 Keynote Papers and 12 Special Invited Papers. In line with the aims of the SEMC 2001 International Conference, and as may be seen from the List of Contents, the papers cover a wide range of topics under a variety of themes. There is a healthy balance between papers of a theoretical nature, concerned with various aspects of structural mechanics and computational issues, and those of a more practical nature, addressing issues of design, safety and construction. As the contributions in these Proceedings show, new and more efficient methods of structural analysis and numerical computation are being explored all the time, while exciting structural materials such as glass have recently come onto the scene. Research interest in the repair and rehabilitation of existing infrastructure continues to grow, particularly in Europe and North America, while the challenges to protect human life and property against the effects of fire, earthquakes and other hazards are being addressed through the development of more appropriate design methods for buildings, bridges and other engineering structures.

Advanced Theoretical and Computational Methods for Complex Materials and Structures

Advanced Theoretical and Computational Methods for Complex Materials and Structures PDF Author: Francesco Tornabene
Publisher: MDPI
ISBN: 3036511180
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 180

Book Description
The broad use of composite materials and shell structural members with complex geometries in technologies related to various branches of engineering has gained increased attention from scientists and engineers for the development of even more refined approaches and investigation of their mechanical behavior. It is well known that composite materials are able to provide higher values of strength stiffness, and thermal properties, together with conferring reduced weight, which can affect the mechanical behavior of beams, plates, and shells, in terms of static response, vibrations, and buckling loads. At the same time, enhanced structures made of composite materials can feature internal length scales and non-local behaviors, with great sensitivity to different staking sequences, ply orientations, agglomeration of nanoparticles, volume fractions of constituents, and porosity levels, among others. In addition to fiber-reinforced composites and laminates, increased attention has been paid in literature to the study of innovative components such as functionally graded materials (FGMs), carbon nanotubes (CNTs), graphene nanoplatelets, and smart constituents. Some examples of smart applications involve large stroke smart actuators, piezoelectric sensors, shape memory alloys, magnetostrictive and electrostrictive materials, as well as auxetic components and angle-tow laminates. These constituents can be included in the lamination schemes of smart structures to control and monitor the vibrational behavior or the static deflection of several composites. The development of advanced theoretical and computational models for composite materials and structures is a subject of active research and this is explored here for different complex systems, including their static, dynamic, and buckling responses; fracture mechanics at different scales; the adhesion, cohesion, and delamination of materials and interfaces.

Time Domain Electromagnetics

Time Domain Electromagnetics PDF Author: Sadasiva M. Rao
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 0080519245
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 385

Book Description
Time Domain Electromagnetics deals with a specific technique in electromagnetics within the general area of electrical engineering. This mathematical method has become a standard for a wide variety of applications for design and problem solving. This method of analysis in electromagnetics is directly related to advances in cellular and mobile communications technology, as well as traditional EM areas such as radar, antennas, and wave propagation. Most of the material is available in the research journals which is difficult for a non-specialist to locate, read, understand, and effectively use for the problem at hand. - Only book currently available to practicing engineers and research scientists exclusively devoted to this subject - Includes contributions by the world's leading experts in electromagnetics - Presents the most popular methods used in time domain analysis are included at one place with thorough discussion of the methods in an easily understandable style - In each chapter, many simple and practical examples are discussed thoroughly to illustrate the salient points of the material presented - All chapters are written in a consistent style that allows the book to be of use for self-study by professionals as well as for use in a graduate-level course in electrical engineering
