Enid Blyton

Enid Blyton PDF Author: Andrew Maunder
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 3030763323
Category : Literary Criticism
Languages : en
Pages : 330

Book Description
This book is a study of the best-selling writer for children Enid Blyton (1897-1968) and provides a new account of her career. It draws on Blyton’s business correspondence to give a fresh account of a misunderstood figure who for forty years was one of Britain’s most successful and powerful authors. It examines Blyton’s rise to fame in the 1920s and considers the ways in which she managed her career as a storyteller, journalist and magazine editor. There is discussion of her most famous series including the Famous Five, the Secret Seven, Malory Towers and Noddy, but attention is also given to lesser-known works including the family stories she published to acclaim in the 1940s and early 1950s, as well as her attempts to become a dramatist. The book also discusses Blyton’s fluctuating critical reputation, how she and her works were received and how Blyton the person has fared at the hands of biographers and the media.

Book Description
Phineas Smith has been cursed with a power no one could control. Roark Lyne is his worst enemy and his only hope. First in the Darkest Court series. The only human student at Mather’s School of Magick, Phineas Smith has a target on his back. Born with the rare ability to tap into unlimited magick, he finds both Faerie Courts want his allegiance—and will do anything to get it. They don’t realize he can’t levitate a feather, much less defend the Faerie Realm as it slips into civil war. Unseelie Prince Roark Lyne—Phineas’s roommate and self-proclaimed arch nemesis—is beautiful and brave and a pain in the ass. Phineas can’t begin to sort through their six years of sexual tension masquerading as mutual dislike. But Roark is also the only one able to help Finn tame his magick. Trusting Roark’s mysterious motives may be foolish; not accepting his temporary protection would be deadly. Caught in the middle of the impending war, Phineas and Roark forge a dangerous alliance. And as the walls between them crumble, Phineas realizes that Roark isn’t the monster he’d imagined. But their growing intimacy threatens to expose a secret that could either turn the tide of the war . . . or destroy them both. Praise for the Darkest Court series “Stunningly brilliant.” —Mirrigold “This is such a fantastic series! The contemporary twist on classic high fantasy is beautifully executed.” —Wicked Reads “I am utterly infatuated with this series and cannot wait for the next book.” —The Novel Approach Reviews

[Siren Publishing: The Stormy Glenn ManLove Collection: Erotic Romance, Contemporary, Alternative, Romantic Suspense, MM, HEA] Lany - I'd always thought that there were times in life when clarity suddenly hit a person and you realized that life was one mess after another. This was one of those times, and it was a mess of epic proportions. At least it wasn't my fault this time. No, seriously, it wasn't my fault. Stop laughing! Salvador - Lany was a mess and everyone knew it, but when weird things start happening, he seems to be the only one who can connect the clues and give us a suspect to go after. When danger comes a little too close to home, he also might be the only one who can save us. I knew the apocalypse would happen at some point. I just never expected it so soon. Book Description
Davey's Rule #86: A good Daddy will never lie to his boy... even by omission. Travis Miller has a pretty solid life in the small California beach town he calls home. He's working his way up in the district attorney's office, he owns a home with an ocean view, and he has close ties with his family. Life is good. If only he could find a sweet boy to call his own, life would be... perfect. Adam Nichols' life has never been easy. Growing up in foster care taught him to be strong, so finding himself in a violent relationship was a shock. Now that he's finally free of it, he faces new problems. He's jobless, homeless, and terrified of starting from scratch. With a little help from an old friend, Adam discovers a whole new world. He goes from rock bottom to renting a room from a hot assistant DA and working at Daddy's Lap, a kink club that opens his vanilla eyes to things he'd never imagined. His new roommate is a balm to Adam's damaged soul. The tender way Travis cares for him is almost like the Daddy kink community he's seen at the club. But Travis isn't a Daddy... right? If he were, surely he'd have said so. What happens when a lie by omission threatens to bring their budding relationship tumbling down around them? Will Travis ever be able to earn Adam's trust again? This is the first book in a new series about not-so-perfect Daddies, adorable "boys," and one sassy brat with an insane list of rules. Grab your fan and tissues because this series comes with both a high heat advisory and all the squishy feels you'd want from a Susan Hawke book. Possible trigger for references to domestic violence.

Hollywood Highbrow

Hollywood Highbrow PDF Author: Shyon Baumann
Publisher: Princeton University Press
ISBN: 0691187282
Category : Performing Arts

Pages : 242

Book Description
Today's moviegoers and critics generally consider some Hollywood products--even some blockbusters--to be legitimate works of art. But during the first half century of motion pictures very few Americans would have thought to call an American movie "art." Up through the 1950s, American movies were regarded as a form of popular, even lower-class, entertainment. By the 1960s and 1970s, however, viewers were regularly judging Hollywood films by artistic criteria previously applied only to high art forms. In Hollywood Highbrow, Shyon Baumann for the first time tells how social and cultural forces radically changed the public's perceptions of American movies just as those forces were radically changing the movies themselves. The development in the United States of an appreciation of film as an art was, Baumann shows, the product of large changes in Hollywood and American society as a whole. With the postwar rise of television, American movie audiences shrank dramatically and Hollywood responded by appealing to richer and more educated viewers. Around the same time, European ideas about the director as artist, an easing of censorship, and the development of art-house cinemas, film festivals, and the academic field of film studies encouraged the idea that some American movies--and not just European ones--deserved to be considered art.
