The Fabrication, Testing and Application of Fibre Cement Boards

The Fabrication, Testing and Application of Fibre Cement Boards PDF Author: Zbigniew Ranachowski
Publisher: Cambridge Scholars Publishing
ISBN: 1527512320
Category : Architecture
Languages : en
Pages : 138

Book Description
This book considers the composition, production, testing methods and application of modern cellulose fibre cement boards (FCB). FCB replaced widespread but now illegal and harmful asbestos building products. Despite the complexity of the FCB fabrication process, the material is currently widely implemented. In the first chapter, the basic idea and microstructure of cellulose FCB is described, with the next chapter concerned with the process of the industrial fabrication of the composite material. The third chapter explores both the basic testing procedures described in international standards and more novel methods. The last section of the book deals with the practical applications of the product, which are illustrated by many existing examples. The pictures of the aesthetical façades of building as well as the remarks on FCB exploitation and economics of implementation of the product are included here. The book will be valuable for researchers, architects, and both graduate and post-graduate students, as well as practicing engineers concerned with building technology.

#fibre(S)cement.com PDF Author: Jacques Roulland
Publisher: BoD - Books on Demand
ISBN: 2322230065
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 334

Book Description
This second book intends to tell the worldwide history of fibre-cement: birth, process, improvements, crisis, competition between local producers and international groups willing to gain monopoly. The topics are explained with archives, pictures and links to contemporary operators. The book does not forget humour, through side notes from players. It adds a look at Art and Architecture, with a wink to famous painters and sculptors who worked on fibre-cement paste or sheets. It emphasizes how,, despite a certain aversion, the fibre cement industry improved the lives of millions of people around the world, built houses and, until recently, water networks

High-performance Hybrid-fibre Concrete

High-performance Hybrid-fibre Concrete PDF Author: Ivan Marković
Publisher: IOS Press
ISBN: 9789040726217
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 232

Book Description
"In the research project presented in this PhD-thesis, an innovative type of fibre concrete is developed, with improved both the tensile strength and the ductility: the Hybrid-Fibre Concrete (HFC). The expression "Hybrid" refers to the "hybridisation" of fibres: short and long steel fibres were combined together in one concrete mixture. This is opposite to conventional steel fibre concretes, which contain only one type of fibre. The basic goal of combining short and long fibres is from one side to improve the tensile strength by the action of short fibres, and from the other side to improve the ductility by the action of long fibres." "In this research project, all important aspects needed for the development and application of Hybrid-Fibre Concrete have been considered. In total 15 mixtures, with different types and amounts of steel fibres were developed and tested in the fresh state (workability) as well as in the hardened state (uniaxial tensile tests, flexural tests, pullout tests of single fibres and compressive tests). A new analytical model for bridging of cracks by fibres was developed and successfully implemented for tensile softening response of HFC. At the end, the utilisation of HFC in the engineering practice was discussed, including a case-study on light prestressed long-span beams made of HFC."--BOOK JACKET.

Expert Knowledge-based Inspection Systems

Expert Knowledge-based Inspection Systems PDF Author: Jorge de Brito
Publisher: Springer Nature
ISBN: 3030424464
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 493

Book Description
This book provides a novel approach to building pathology in current buildings. Drawing on the available literature, hands-on experience and fieldwork inspections, it presents a systematic perspective on the pathology of the building envelope. The book addresses natural stone claddings, adhesive ceramic tiling, renders, painted surfaces, External Thermal Insulation Composite Systems (ETICS), architectural concrete surfaces, windows and doors framing, and claddings for pitched and flat roofs. In addition to highlighting selected materials and construction elements, the book proposes a global classification system for defects and their probable causes, together with in situ diagnosis methods and repair techniques. It also identifies the relationships between defects and causes, diagnosis methods and repair techniques, and the interdependence between different defects, presenting these relations in the form of correlation matrices. Support files with detailed information and an inspection form are also provided. Selected case studies are presented to illustrate the value of a guidance system in fieldwork. Given its scope, the book offers a valuable guide, particularly for researchers, building inspectors, civil engineers, architects and maintenance planners.

Cement-Based Composites

Cement-Based Composites PDF Author: Andrzej M. Brandt
Publisher: CRC Press
ISBN: 0203889037
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 536

Book Description
Cement-Based Composites takes a different approach from most other books in the field by viewing concrete as an advanced composite material, and by considering the properties and behaviour of cement-based materials from this stance. It deals particularly, but not exclusively, with newer forms of cement-based materials. This new edition takes a critical approach to the subject as well as presenting up-to-date knowledge. Emphasis is given to non-conventional reinforcement and design methods, problems at the materials' interfaces and to the durability of structures. High strength composites and novel forms of cement-based composites are described in detail. After a basic introduction the book explores the various components of these materials and their properties. It then deals with mechanical properties and considers characteristics under various loading and environmental conditions, and concludes by examining design, optimization and economics with particular emphasis on high-performance concretes. Researchers, graduate students and practising engineers will find this book valuable.

Advanced fibre-reinforced polymer (FRP) composites for structural applications

Advanced fibre-reinforced polymer (FRP) composites for structural applications PDF Author: T.H. Panzera
Publisher: Elsevier Inc. Chapters
ISBN: 0128088451
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 36

Book Description
Portland cement concrete is a brittle material. The main reason for incorporating fibres into a cement matrix is to improve the cracking deformation characteristics, increasing not only the toughness, impact and tensile strength, but also eliminating temperature and shrinkage cracks. Several different types of fibres have been used to reinforce cement-based materials. This chapter briefly discusses the characteristics of fibre-reinforced concrete (FRC), reporting the effect of the fibres on the physico-chemical and mechanical properties. It also presents some of the recent research and future perspectives of FRC.
