Book Description
A blow-by-blow account of one of the most famous ferry rides in the world, this Level F book is perfect for kindergarteners and first graders to read on their own. Breathtaking scenes illustrate and illuminate a text that is just right for new readers: We go on the ferry. Let's go to the window. We see a fort. We see a long, long bridge. Realistic digital etchings of the Manhattan skyline, the escalator to a gangplank, New York City crowds, and landmarks such as the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island and more give new readers an experience that builds skills, boosts confidence, and shows how reading is fun! This book has been officially leveled by using the Fountas & Pinnell Text Level Gradient(TM) Leveling System. Level F books, for early first graders, feature longer, more varied sentences than Level E. Level F books encourage kids to decode new multi-syllable words in addition to recognizing sight words. Stories are more complex, and illustrations provide support and additional detail. When Level F is mastered, follow up with Level G. The award-winning I Like to Read series features guided reading levels A through G, based upon Fountas & Pinnell standards. Acclaimed author-illustrators--including winners of Caldecott, Theodor Seuss Geisel, and Coretta Scott King honors--create original, high-quality illustrations that support comprehension of simple text and are fun for kids to read again and again with their parents, teachers or on their own!

The Will to be True

The Will to be True PDF Author: Judith D. Andrade
Publisher: iUniverse
ISBN: 1450217249
Category : Fiction

Pages : 309

Book Description
There is a great divide between Classical music and Pop/Rock with many musical genre filling the in between space. Before the Beatles came on the scene back in the 60's, Country Music filled the great divide. It has a way of telling a story in a short yet meaningful way. One of my favourite songs was the Hank Locklin hit, 'Please Help Me I'm Falling'. It arrived my curiosity. I wanted to find a situation in which someone would need to beg for help because they were 'losing the will to be true.' I have always wanted to bring that story to life. Daphne DuMaurier did it in 'Frenchman's Creek' and recently a similar story was retold in 'Bridges of Madison County'. This story is my twist on that theme. Each writer will have their own thoughts about ending the complexities of this type of challenging relationship. It was important to have my own resolution to a troubling and tortuous but not uncommon love story.

Developing Self Without Sight

Developing Self Without Sight PDF Author: William F. Cavitt
Publisher: AuthorHouse
ISBN: 1467805386
Category : Biography & Autobiography
Languages : en
Pages : 232

Book Description
A child sighted or blind is born into this world with all the building blocks for what they can become. This physical material is impacted by the childs environment over a life time while the self evolves. The self is the same in blind children as it is in the sighted, only the developmental process is different. Both children have the same starting materials: mind, body, and spirit. With these parts the child develops a process of thinking, feeling, and behaving toward other people, objects and situations, and they recognize that others also think, feel and behave in their environment. It is with their thoughts, emotions, and actions that children relate to their world using physical, emotional, cognitive, social, and moralistic attributes and through this interrelationship the self evolves. The self is everything that exists in a persons unique world and it exists because of their self-concept and self-esteem. Aspects of self-concept are the elements of well-being that assists our survival in our environment. They consist of all the physical things, our personality, feelings toward life, our knowledge and problem solving techniques, how we successfully interface with others; and our social and spiritual values in life. If our self-concept contains the important things, and issues in life, and there is a high regard for them, then our self will evolve in a manner conducive to peace and harmony. If not, the opposite will occur. The blind child must build a self with a missing part. Granted self will evolve for a blind child, but it must be augmented by all other senses of the body in order to enhance the mind and spirit. A blind childs thoughts, feelings, and behaviors serve the same purpose as they do for a sighted child, but will evolve differently. The physical, emotional, cognitive, social, and moral concepts are necessary, but are obtained without the benefit of the automatic process of seeing. The self evolves but the conduit for inputting their environment is different for a blind child. This is the story of a four year blind boy named Cavitt and how his self is evolving. His adventures can be used to assist other blind children develop their self. The book vividly illustrates psychology of a blind child as he lives this psychology. It is the development of a self that is Cavitt.
