Feral Tracks PDF Author: Euan Mitchell
Publisher: OverDog Press
ISBN: 0992504929
Category : Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 328

Book Description
Feral Tracks is based on the true story of a sixteen-year-old schoolboy who ran away from home with four dollars and hitchhiked around Australia. Daniel's exploits are a roller-coaster ride through a wild summer off the leash, the madness of share-house living, outback mustering of feral cattle, and nightclub excess. Told with driving energy, blunt honesty and dry humor, Feral Tracks shows why survival on the road means growing up fast. "Mitchell's debut novel is stunning in its breadth of locations, vibrant characterizations and intelligent handling of contemporary issues ... this is an impressive, clever and entirely satisfying book." Viewpoint "The male version of Puberty Blues." ABC Radio "The energy behind Feral Tracks comes from Mitchell's ability to take a year's worth of adventures, spanning the entire country, and to weave them into a fast-moving and engrossing story." Courier Mail "Despite the tribulations of survival on the road, Mitchell's alter-ego is articulate, intelligent and, most importantly, resourceful." The Age "Succeeds on all fronts." Sydney Morning Herald

Feral Tracks

Feral Tracks PDF Author: Euan Mitchell

Category : Hitchhiking
Languages : en
Pages : 277

Book Description
A novel based on the true story of a sixteen-year-old schoolboy who ran away from home with four dollars and hitchhiked around Australia. Daniel's exploits are a roller-coaster ride through a wild summer 'off the leash', the madness of share-house living, outback mustering of feral cattle, and nightclub excess. Told with driving energy, blunt honesty and dry humour, Feral Tracks shows why survival on the road means growing up fast. The National Library of Australia regards this adaptation as a first edition not a revised edition because it has been completely rewritten (line by line) although the storyline is similar. The addition of the subtitle (which appears on the title page and CiP data but not on the cover) makes the new version bibliographically unique. The first prelim page explains the evolution of the story for those interested. Feral Tracks captivated teenagers when first released in 1998, including reluctant male readers. It was short-listed for a readers' choice award and optioned for a feature film. The screenplay was created in 2002 and, although not produced as a movie, inspired this newly rewritten version of the story. Feral Tracks: the novel adapted from the screenplay has transformed the travelogue style of the first publication into a more tightly structured story format for a fresh readership. Vulgar Press is supporting its publication of the novel with free Study Notes, downloadable from vulgar.com.au, due to the story's popularity with Years 10 and 11 English classes in Australia, New Zealand and the UK.

Feral

Feral PDF Author: George Monbiot
Publisher: University of Chicago Press
ISBN: 022620555X
Category : Nature
Languages : en
Pages : 342

Book Description
As an investigative journalist, Monbiot found a mission in his ecological boredom, that of learning what it might take to impose a greater state of harmony between himself and nature. He was not one to romanticize undisturbed, primal landscapes, but rather in his attempts to satisfy his cravings for a richer, more authentic life, he came stumbled into the world of restoration and rewilding. When these concepts were first introduced in 2011, very recently, they focused on releasing captive animals into the wild. Soon the definition expanded to describe the reintroduction of animal and plant species to habitats from which they had been excised. Some people began using it to mean the rehabilitation not just of particular species, but of entire ecosystems: a restoration of wilderness. Rewilding recognizes that nature consists not just of a collection of species but also of their ever-shifting relationships with each other and with the physical environment. Ecologists have shown how the dynamics within communities are affected by even the seemingly minor changes in species assemblages. Predators and large herbivores have transformed entire landscapes, from the nature of the soil to the flow of rivers, the chemistry of the oceans, and the composition of the atmosphere. The complexity of earth systems is seemingly boundless."

ISBN: 908686760X
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 483

Book Description
These proceedings present the latest achievements and developments within the scientific community of fur animal research organised by the International Fur Animal Scientific Association (IFASA). The book contains papers on the following topics: nutrition, feeding and management, health and disease, breeding, genetics and reproduction, behaviour and welfare and a theme on 'WelFur for mink and foxes'. The scientific results presented do not only come from traditional mink producing countries, but also from countries with more recent developments in fur animal production. The scientific community in the field of fur animal production is small, but the biologic diversity and thus the need for scientifically based knowledge in this area is similar to, or often exceeds, that of other farm animals. In this book, the most diverse and recent advancements in fur animal production were brought together in order to provide a clear overview for all those involved in the fur animal industry.
