Vortex Dynamics and Optical Vortices

Vortex Dynamics and Optical Vortices PDF Author: Hector Perez-De-Tejada
Publisher: BoD – Books on Demand
ISBN: 9535129295
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 346

Book Description
The contents of the book cover a wide variety of topics related to the analysis of the dynamics of vortices and describe the results of experiments, computational modeling and their interpretation. The book contains 13 chapters reaching areas of physics in vortex dynamics and optical vortices including vortices in superfluid atomic gases, vortex laser beams, vortex-antivortex in ferromagnetic hybrids, and optical vortices illumination in chiral nanostructures. Also, discussions are presented on particle motion in vortex flows, on the simulation of vortex-dominated flows, on vortices in saturable media, on achromatic vortices, and on ultraviolet vortices. Fractal light vortices, coherent vortex beams, together with vortices in electric dipole radiation, and spin wave dynamics in magnetic vortices are examined as well.

Femtosecond Optical Frequency Comb: Principle, Operation and Applications

Femtosecond Optical Frequency Comb: Principle, Operation and Applications PDF Author: Jun Ye
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 0387237917
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 373

Book Description
Over the last few years, there has been a convergence between the fields of ultrafast science, nonlinear optics, optical frequency metrology, and precision laser spectroscopy. These fields have been developing largely independently since the birth of the laser, reaching remarkable levels of performance. On the ultrafast frontier, pulses of only a few cycles long have been produced, while in optical spectroscopy, the precision and resolution have reached one part in Although these two achievements appear to be completely disconnected, advances in nonlinear optics provided the essential link between them. The resulting convergence has enabled unprecedented advances in the control of the electric field of the pulses produced by femtosecond mode-locked lasers. The corresponding spectrum consists of a comb of sharp spectral lines with well-defined frequencies. These new techniques and capabilities are generally known as “femtosecond comb technology. ” They have had dramatic impact on the diverse fields of precision measurement and extreme nonlinear optical physics. The historical background for these developments is provided in the Foreword by two of the pioneers of laser spectroscopy, John Hall and Theodor Hänsch. Indeed the developments described in this book were foreshadowed by Hänsch’s early work in the 1970s when he used picosecond pulses to demonstrate the connection between the time and frequency domains in laser spectroscopy. This work complemented the advances in precision laser stabilization developed by Hall.

Twisted Photons

Twisted Photons PDF Author: Juan P. Torres
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
ISBN: 3527635378
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 393

Book Description
This book deals with applications in several areas of science and technology that make use of light which carries orbital angular momentum. In most practical scenarios, the angular momentum can be decomposed into two independent contributions: the spin angular momentum and the orbital angular momentum. The orbital contribution affords a fundamentally new degree of freedom, with fascinating and wide-spread applications. Unlike spin angular momentum, which is associated with the polarization of light, the orbital angular momentum arises as a consequence of the spatial distribution of the intensity and phase of an optical field, even down to the single photon limit. Researchers have begun to appreciate its implications for our understanding of the ways in which light and matter can interact, and its practical potential in different areas of science and technology.

The Supercontinuum Laser Source

The Supercontinuum Laser Source PDF Author: Robert R. Alfano
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 1493933264
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 452

Book Description
This is the third edition of a well-known classic on ultrafast nonlinear and linear processes responsible for supercontinuum generation. Part I of the book reviews the progress achieved in experimental and theoretical understanding of the field, and goes over the applications developed since the discovery of the supercontinuum effect. The second part of the book covers recent research activity on supercontinuum phenomena and advances achieved since the publication of the previous edition. The new chapters specifically focus on: normal dispersion photonic band gap fibers; coherence in the supercontinuum; supercontinuum in the UV, NIR, and IR; and supercontinuum in XUV and X-rays for attosecond pulses. The Supercontinuum Laser Source is a definitive work by one of the discoverers of the white light effect. It is indispensable reading for any researcher or student working in the field of ultrafast laser physics.
