Feasibility Study for the Construction of a 20,000 Ft. Barge Mounted Drill Rig Designed for Summer and Late Fall Operation in the Beaufort Sea with Provision for Future Winter Drilling in Land Fast Ice
Proposal for a Barge Mounted Drilling Unit for Open Water Summer Drilling in the Beaufort Sea
Deep Hole Drilling Feasibility Study
Author: Fenix & Scisson
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Boring
Languages : en
Pages : 218
Book Description
It is feasible to drill a hole to a depth of 50,000 feet by utilizing conventional rotary drilling equipment and techniques. Existing equipment is capable of drilling the hole but modifications of some equipment items are warranted for completion of the lower portion of the hole. The whole could be started with presently available equipment as soon as funds are available, a location established, and a contractor selected. While the upper portion of the hole (20,000 - 30,000 ft.) is being drilled, equipment modifications could be made and supplemental equipment developed. This would allow time to make the equipment available when needed for the lower portion of the hole. Two locations are considered as established by the criteria, both in the Coast Ranges Province of California in the vicinity of the San Andreas Fault. One location would be in an area where granitic rock outcrops at the surface while the other would be in an area where the granitic is overlain by 10,000 feet of sediments. The estimated time to drill the hole under ideal conditions at either location is 4-3/4 years at an estimated cost of $20,000,000. [$400/ft].

Cost Estimate for 12,000' Drilling Rig for Ice Platform Drilling
Author: Tri Ocean Engineering Ltd
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Offshore oil well drilling
Languages : en
Pages : 16
Book Description
"This cost estimate has been prepared for a 12,000 foot drilling rig for use on offshore ice platforms during the winter and for land use during the summer. The basic rig price includes B.O.P. equipment for land application. The rig would be powered with AC diesel generators. The drilling motors would be DC and would be controlled through an SCR (silicon controlled rectifier) system. The rig would be transportable by Hercules aircraft, however the B.O.P. equipment would have to be partially disassembled before transporting by aircraft. The land rig and surface B.O.P. system costs are estimated at $5,200,000. A 70 man transportable camp would cost an estimated $490,000. The sub-sea B.O.P. system costs would be in addition to the basic rig costs. Like the land B.O.P. equipment it would have to be partially disassembled for Hercules transportation. A sub-sea system with a 1,500 foot operating capability is estimated at $2,140,000. A reduction of $125,000 is possible if the second sub-sea control pod and hose reel is eliminated. The cost of a complete rig equipped for drilling to 12,000 feet from land and ice platforms would therefore be: Rig and land B.O.P.: $5,200,000; Camp: $490,000; Sub-sea B.O.P. system: $2,140,000; Total: $7,830,000"--Leaf [1].

Cumulative Environmental Effects of Oil and Gas Activities on Alaska's North Slope
Author: National Research Council
Publisher: National Academies Press
ISBN: 0309168368
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 305
Book Description
This book identifies accumulated environmental, social and economic effects of oil and gas leasing, exploration, and production on Alaska's North Slope. Economic benefits to the region have been accompanied by effects of the roads, infrastructure and activies of oil and gas production on the terrain, plants, animals and peoples of the North Slope. While attempts by the oil industry and regulatory agencies have reduced many of the environmental effects, they have not been eliminated. The book makes recommendations for further environmental research related to environmental effects.
