Book Description
The development process included a number of phases, which are described in the report. Included in this report are the following: 1) a state-of-knowledge review for fatigue response of asphalt aggregate mixes, 2) a description of a pilot test program and its results, 3) a description of an expanded test program using the equipment and methodology selected in the pilot test program, and 4) a description of a mix analysis and design system, which can be used to mitigate fatigue cracking.

Book Description
In order that considerations for fatigue distress of the asphalt concrete may be incorporated into pavement design procedures, it is necessary that definitive information on the fatigue behavior of asphalt concrete mixtures be determined. Data are presented based on a review of the literature as well as our research, which illustrate the effects of a number of mixture variables on fatigue response and include an indication of the influence of: mixture stiffness, air void content, aggregate gradation, aggregate type, asphalt content, and asphalt type.

Stage 1 Validation of the Relationship Between Asphalt Properties and Asphalt-aggregate Mix Performance

Stage 1 Validation of the Relationship Between Asphalt Properties and Asphalt-aggregate Mix Performance PDF Author:
Publisher: Strategic Highway Research Program (Shrp)
ISBN:
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 260

Book Description
A primary objective for the Strategic Highway Research Program (SHRP) A-003A contract was to extend and verify the results obtained by other SHRP contractors on the performance-related characteristics of asphalt binders in paving mixes. This report specifically addresses validation of the following: 1) binder properties proposed by the A-002A contractor to predict asphalt-aggregate mix performance in terms of fatigue, permanent deformation, and thermal cracking; and 2) conditioning procedures that produce binder properties representative of those in a pavement immediately after construction and after several years of service. While water sensitivity requirements are not included in the binder specification, validation efforts in the water-sensitivity area are also described. Materials used in the investigation included 8 to 16 asphalt binders and 2 to 4 aggregates obtained from the SHRP Materials Reference Library.
