Benvenuti did not compare various regional patterns of culture; within one rural community, Winterswijk, he succeeded in explaining differences in farm management by the gradual replacement of a traditional pattern of culture by a modern one. But how did the rise in banana consumption in the United States affect the banana-growing regions of Central America?
