Lake of Sins: Escape

Lake of Sins: Escape PDF Author: L. S. O'Dea
Publisher: Linda O'Dea
ISBN: 1942706014
Category : Fiction
Languages : en
Pages : 290

Book Description
Enjoy this FREE dystopian, genetic engineering series by bestselling science-fantasy author L. S. O'Dea. Every year after harvest the weakest are removed from the encampment. None of them are ever seen or heard from again. Trinity’s only hope of escape lies in the forest. She’s not afraid of the creatures that live there. There’s nothing bigger than foxes in those woods, except this time something is different. This time she’s hunted from land and sea by predators that should only exist in legends. Surrounded by three enemies. Surrender is her only option, but which one should she choose? A captivating dystopian read filled with human-animal hybrids and creatures you’ve never even imagined. Fans of Daniel Young, Michael Anderle, and Anna Hackett will love this free science-fantasy, genetic engineering story. Author Interview Q. – Why should someone read the Lake of Sins series? If you're looking for your typical gentic engineering, post-apocalyptic, survival thriller then you should look somewhere else. This story has been described as a one-of-a-kind world created in a unique dystopian society. The characters in the series are human-animal hybrids—genetic mutations or evil experiments, is yet to be revealed. It's an entire new species of characters who don't fit in the typical genre categories of vampire, werewolf, witch, fairies or even angels and demons. The world of the Lake of Sins is segregated by class with the humans ruling supreme. In book one, Escape, Trinity unwittingly sets off a collision between the classes when she flees into the forest to find and free her friend only to discover the horrible fate of her kind. The books are fast paced with adventure and mutated creatures around every corner. There are legends that are truth and societal truths that are well guarded lies. All-in-all, it's a unique and exciting read and you should give it a try. I think you'll love it. The Chimera Chronicles series also takes place in the world of the Lake of Sins. These stories are prequels, explaining how some of the characters, who you meet in the Lake of Sins series, became monsters. Q. – Who should read the Lake of Sins series? Although there's a strong, female lead in Lake of Sins, the audience for both series is broad. I have fans (male and female) aged ten through eighty. Anyone who likes gory thrillers that are dark, a little disturbing and packed with action will enjoy these books. However, a word of caution is in order. These books are not for the squeamish. Some scenes are bloody and violent almost falling into the horror genre, but the interactions between the characters are funny, poignant and loving (and a love triangle develops as the stories progress). Still, I wouldn't recommend these books to anyone under thirteen without the parents reading the books first.

Dangerous Fictions

Dangerous Fictions PDF Author: Lyta Gold
Publisher: Catapult
ISBN: 1593767706
Category : Literary Criticism
Languages : en
Pages : 353

Book Description
In a political moment when social panics over literature are at their peak, Dangerous Fictions is a mind-expanding treatise on the nature of fictional stories as cultural battlegrounds for power. Fictional stories have long held an uncanny power over hearts and minds, especially those of young people. In Dangerous Fictions, Lyta Gold traces arguments both historical and contemporary that have labeled fiction as dark, immoral, frightening, or poisonous. Within each she asks: How “dangerous” is fiction, really? And what about it provokes waves of moral panic and even censorship? Gold argues that any panic about art is largely a disguised panic about power. There have been versions of these same fights over fiction for centuries. By exposing fiction as a social danger and a battleground of immediate public concern, we can see what each side really wants—the right to shape the future of a world deeply in flux and a distraction from more pressing material concerns about money, access, and the hard work of politics. From novels about people driven insane by reading novels to “copaganda” TV shows that influence how viewers regard the police, Gold uses her signature wit, research, and fearless commentary to point readers toward a more substantial question: Fiction may be dangerous to us, but aren’t we also dangerous to it?

Fantasy Film

Fantasy Film PDF Author: James Walters
Publisher: Berg
ISBN: 1847888429
Category : Performing Arts
Languages : en
Pages : 259

Book Description
Fantasy Film proposes an innovative approach to the study of this most popular cinematic genre. Engaging with the diversity of tones, forms and styles that fantasy can take in the cinema, the book examines the value and significance of fantasy across a wide range of key films. This volume extends critical understanding beyond the often narrowly defined boundaries of what is seen as "fantasy". Fantasy Film uses key concepts in film studies - such as authorship, representation, history, genre, coherence and point of view - to interrogate the fantasy genre and establish its parameters. A wide range of films are held up to close scrutiny to illustrate the discussion. Moving from Alfred Hitchcock's dark thrillers to Vincente Minnelli's vibrant musicals, from George Méliès' 1904 Voyage à travers l'impossible to the X-Men series, the creative dexterity and excitement of film fantasy is evoked and explored. The book will be invaluable to students and fans of the fantasy genre.
