Social and Economic Factors Affecting Intercity Travel

Social and Economic Factors Affecting Intercity Travel PDF Author: Vogt, Ivers & Associates
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Express highways
Languages : en
Pages : 88

Book Description
A research study was conducted to define the social and economic factors affecting intercity travel and to use the resulting relationships with existing traffic prediction tools to predict intercity travel. Data used were the external origin-and-destination surveys of 22 cities. Another source of data was the U.S. census. Trip data from the origination-destination studies were summarized by trip purposes and by increasing time rings from the study area centroids. A stepwise regression analysis computer program was used to determine the relationship between trips and social and economic data. In an alternate analysis procedure, the survey data were utilized to determine the amount and characteristics of intercity trip generation.

Measurement of Pavement Thickness by Rapid and Nondestructive Methods

Measurement of Pavement Thickness by Rapid and Nondestructive Methods PDF Author: S. D. Howkins
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Pavements
Languages : en
Pages : 106

Book Description
The feasibility is investigated of various acoustic (sonic), nuclear, and electrical techniques for nondestructive measurement of Portland cement and bituminous concrete pavement thickness both during and after construction. Recommendations are made for equipment development and field testing of three specific methods that could potentially result in such measurements with the desired degree of speed and accuracy.

Structural Behavior of Asphalt Pavements

Structural Behavior of Asphalt Pavements PDF Author: Lijun Sun
Publisher: Butterworth-Heinemann
ISBN: 0128028939
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 1072

Book Description
Structural Behavior of Asphalt Pavements provides engineers and researchers with a detailed guide to the structural behavioral dynamics of asphalt pavement including: pavement temperature distribution, mechanistic response of pavement structure under the application of heavy vehicles, distress mechanism of pavement, and pavement deterioration performance and dynamic equations. An authoritative guide for understanding the key mechanisms for creating longer lasting pavements, Structural Behavior of Asphalt Pavements describes the intrinsic consistency between macroscopic performance and microscopic response, structure and material, as well as global and local performances, and demonstrates the process of pavement analyses and designs, approaching science from empirical analyses. - Analyzes the external and internal factors influencing pavement temperature field, and provide a review of existing pavement temperature prediction models - Introduces a "Bridge Principle through which pavement performance and fatigue properties are consolidated - Defines the intrinsic consistency between macroscopic performance and microscopic response, structure and material, as well as global and local performance - Summaries the mechanistic response of pavement structure under the application of heavy vehicle, distress mechanism of pavement, pavement deterioration performance and dynamic equations, and life cycle analysis of pavement

Economics of Design Standards for Low-volume Rural Roads

Economics of Design Standards for Low-volume Rural Roads PDF Author: Clarkson Hill Oglesby
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 112

Book Description
he objective of this study is to examine prevailing rural design standards to determine their economic justification. This would evaluate in depth the cost of some of the most significant design practices (for example, roadway and shoulder width and surfacing type). Resulting user benefits, such as operating, accident and time savings would be weighed against the cost of individual features. In addition to the analysis of the user-benefit relationships, the economic and social consequences to local residents, businesses and communities should be studied and a suitable means of including them in the reckoning of warranted levels of improvement should be found.
