A quality teacher is critical to the academic success of every child, especially those in schools where students struggle to meet annual performance goals. The purpose of this study was to examine teacher recruitment and retention factors in high need public schools, and if those factors positively impacted staffing rates, teacher turnover rates, and teacher effectiveness results in the areas of planning and preparation for learning and delivery of instruction. This research identified factors that significantly influenced teachers to accept and remain teaching in high need schools. There was also a significant difference in teacher effectiveness results based on recruitment method.
