Book Description
The Strategic Defense Initiative Program, announced by former President Reagan on March 23, 1983, is an extensive research program designed to determine the feasibility of developing and effective ballistic missile defense systems. The program includes research of tactical or theater missile defense technologies necessary for the protection of ground forces from attacks by enemy tactical missiles. One aspect of such technology is defense against tactical missiles accomplished by intercepting and destroying a missile before it can reach its designated target. The principles of the technology to be evaluated in the Extended Range Intercept Technology (ERINT) program were initially demonstrated at lower altitudes in the successful Flexible Lightweight Agile Guided Experiment (FLAGE). The purpose of the FLAGE program included developing hit-to-kill technology and demonstrating the guidance accuracy of a small, agile, radar-homing vehicle. Provisions for the Theater Missile Defense Chemical Flight Experiments (TMDCFE) have been included in the proposed ERINT program to quantify theater missile defense (TMD) lethality against bulk chemical warheads in the TMD Bulk Chemical Experiment (TMDBCE) and against submunition chemical warheads in the TMD Submunition Chemical Experiment (TMDSCE).

2019 Missile Defense Review

2019 Missile Defense Review PDF Author: Department Of Defense
Publisher: Independently Published
ISBN: 9781794441101
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 108

Book Description
2019 Missile Defense Review - January 2019 According to a senior administration official, a number of new technologies are highlighted in the report. The review looks at "the comprehensive environment the United States faces, and our allies and partners face. It does posture forces to be prepared for capabilities that currently exist and that we anticipate in the future." The report calls for major investments from both new technologies and existing systems. This is a very important and insightful report because many of the cost assessments for these technologies in the past, which concluded they were too expensive, are no longer applicable. Why buy a book you can download for free? We print this book so you don't have to. First you gotta find a good clean (legible) copy and make sure it's the latest version (not always easy). Some documents found on the web are missing some pages or the image quality is so poor, they are difficult to read. We look over each document carefully and replace poor quality images by going back to the original source document. We proof each document to make sure it's all there - including all changes. If you find a good copy, you could print it using a network printer you share with 100 other people (typically its either out of paper or toner). If it's just a 10-page document, no problem, but if it's 250-pages, you will need to punch 3 holes in all those pages and put it in a 3-ring binder. Takes at least an hour. It's much more cost-effective to just order the latest version from Amazon.com This book includes original commentary which is copyright material. Note that government documents are in the public domain. We print these large documents as a service so you don't have to. The books are compact, tightly-bound, full-size (8 1/2 by 11 inches), with large text and glossy covers. 4th Watch Publishing Co. is a HUBZONE SDVOSB. https: //usgovpub.com

Subsystems for the Extended Range Interceptor (ERINT-1) Missile

Subsystems for the Extended Range Interceptor (ERINT-1) Missile PDF Author: Ronal Herman
Publisher:

Pages : 8

Book Description
This paper describes the design and performance of the subsystems being developed and flight tested for the ERINT-1 Missile. The ERINT-1 Program, sponsored by the U.S. Army Strategic Defense Command, consists of the design and flight test of a prototype missile and launch control system for defense against ballistic and maneuvering tactical missiles and aircraft and cruise missiles. The ERINT-1 Missile also has capability against air-breathing aircraft and cruise missiles. The technologies demonstrated by the Flexible, Lightweight, Agile, Guided Experiment (FLAGE) Program and previous ERINT Programs were utilized by the ERINT-1 Program. The performance of the missile is increased to provide intercept capability at higher altitudes and longer ranges than was previously demonstrated by FLAGE. The missile components are redesigned in order to provide packaging commensurate with the small, lightweight, agile missile concept while increasing missile performance. This paper discusses the design, operation, and capability of each of the missile subsystems and those elements of the Launch Control System which have been developed for the Flight Test Program.

The Last Thirty Seconds

The Last Thirty Seconds PDF Author: David K. Stumpf
Publisher: University of Arkansas Press
ISBN: 1610758250
Category : History
Languages : en
Pages : 202

Book Description
In March 1983, as the world’s superpowers continued aggressively stockpiling nuclear weapons, President Ronald Reagan described his vision for a world no longer confronted with the concept of mutually assured destruction. A year later the Strategic Defense Initiative was established, followed soon after by the creation of the Strategic Defense Initiative Organization (SDIO). The SDIO was tasked with the development and coordination of missile technologies designed for the strategic defense against civilization’s most dangerous invention, one that carried with it the threat of nuclear destruction—intercontinental ballistic missiles. In The Last Thirty Seconds: A Brief History of the Evolution of Hit-to-Kill Technology, David K. Stumpf details the development of one of many possible solutions for ballistic missile defense commonly known as hit-to-kill. Hit-to-kill is a nonnuclear technique using kinetic energy, rather than explosives, to destroy reentry vehicles carrying chemical, biological, or nuclear warheads. It is the centerpiece of the United States’ current ballistic missile defense systems and has proven invaluable in the conflict between Ukraine and Russia as well as in the ongoing conflict with the Houthi rebels in the Red Sea. While much of the subject remains classified, this detailed study will be welcomed for its substantial references and the inclusion of newly declassified material.
