Book Description
The International Symposium on Mathematical Theory of Networks and Systems (MTNS) is a biennial international conference in the general area of mathematical systems theory. The symposium is interdisciplinary and attracts mathematicians, engineers and researchers working in all aspects of systems theory. The symposium is organized every two years and traditionally covers areas involving a wide range of research directions in mathematical systems, networks and control theory. Mathematical methods which play a role in these areas stem from a broad range of fields of pure and applied mathematics, including ordinary and partial differential equations, dynamical systems, complex and functional analysis, numerical analysis, probability theory and stochastic analysis, operator theory, graph theory, linear and commutative algebra, as well as algebraic and differential geometry. There is a wide range of applications ranging from problems in biology, medical sciences, coding and communications, to problems in chemical engineering, circuits, distribution networks, power systems, nanosystems, robotics, and mechatronics.

Systems and Networks, Systems and Networks: Mathematical Theory and Applications

Systems and Networks, Systems and Networks: Mathematical Theory and Applications PDF Author: Uwe Helmke
Publisher: Wiley-VCH
ISBN: 9783055015731
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 411

Book Description
The Symposium of the Mathematical Theory of Networks and Systems, MTNS, is an international event which is held biannually since 1973. MTNS '93 was the tenth meeting and the first one organized in Germany. It took place in Regensburg in August 1993. The symposia focus attention on the mathematical foundations of systems, control and circuit theory, signal processing, and their applications - areas which are of vital interest for mathematicians and engineers. The successful interaction between advanced mathematical methods and engineering problems is continuing to create an impressive body of theories and new results. The first volume contains the key invited lectures presented at MTNS '93. The contributions are written by outstanding researchers working in the areas of the symposium. They describe new developments in the theory and its applications presenting major new advances in linear and nonlinear control, operator theoretic methods, as well as modelling issues.

Dissipative Phase Transitions

Dissipative Phase Transitions PDF Author: Pierluigi Colli
Publisher: World Scientific
ISBN: 9814478652
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 321

Book Description
Phase transition phenomena arise in a variety of relevant real world situations, such as melting and freezing in a solid-liquid system, evaporation, solid-solid phase transitions in shape memory alloys, combustion, crystal growth, damage in elastic materials, glass formation, phase transitions in polymers, and plasticity. The practical interest of such phenomenology is evident and has deeply influenced the technological development of our society, stimulating intense mathematical research in this area. This book analyzes and approximates some models and related partial differential equation problems that involve phase transitions in different contexts and include dissipation effects.

General Principles of Quantum Field Theory

General Principles of Quantum Field Theory PDF Author: N.N. Bogolubov
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 9400904916
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 714

Book Description
The majority of the "memorable" results of relativistic quantum theory were obtained within the framework of the local quantum field approach. The explanation of the basic principles of the local theory and its mathematical structure has left its mark on all modern activity in this area. Originally, the axiomatic approach arose from attempts to give a mathematical meaning to the quantum field theory of strong interactions (of Yukawa type). The fields in such a theory are realized by operators in Hilbert space with a positive Poincare-invariant scalar product. This "classical" part of the axiomatic approach attained its modern form as far back as the sixties. * It has retained its importance even to this day, in spite of the fact that nowadays the main prospects for the description of the electro-weak and strong interactions are in connection with the theory of gauge fields. In fact, from the point of view of the quark model, the theory of strong interactions of Wightman type was obtained by restricting attention to just the "physical" local operators (such as hadronic fields consisting of ''fundamental'' quark fields) acting in a Hilbert space of physical states. In principle, there are enough such "physical" fields for a description of hadronic physics, although this means that one must reject the traditional local Lagrangian formalism. (The connection is restored in the approximation of low-energy "phe nomenological" Lagrangians.

Nanodevices for Microwave and Millimeter Wave Applications

Nanodevices for Microwave and Millimeter Wave Applications PDF Author: Isabelle Huynen
Publisher: MDPI
ISBN: 3039362224
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 92

Book Description
The microwave and millimeter wave frequency range is nowadays widely exploited in a large variety of fields including (wireless) communications, security, radar, spectroscopy, but also astronomy and biomedical, to name a few. This Special Issue focuses on the interaction between the nanoscale dimensions and centimeter to millimeter wavelengths. This interaction has been proven to be efficient for the design and fabrication of devices showing enhanced performance. Novel contributions are welcome in the field of devices based on nanoscaled geometries and materials. Applications cover, but not are limited to, electronics, sensors, signal processing, imaging and metrology, all exploiting nanoscale/nanotechnology at microwave and millimeter waves. Contributions can take the form of short communications, regular or review papers.
