The author praises Gratian’s zeal for instruction in the Faith, and speaks lowly of his own merits. Author: Alexander Maclaren
Publisher: BoD – Books on Demand
ISBN: 9359326380
Category : Psychology
Languages : en
Pages : 122
Book Description

Maclaren's study digs into the life, character, and spiritual journey of King David, ancient Israel's beloved and complex ruler. Maclaren's writing is distinguished by a genuine regard for the biblical story and a rigorous attention to detail. He takes readers on a riveting trip through David's life, from his humble beginnings as a shepherd to his rise as a warrior, poet, and, eventually, the acclaimed king of Israel. Maclaren presents profound spiritual and moral insights throughout the book, pulling lessons from David's accomplishments and disappointments. He emphasizes David's psalms, emphasizing their enduring spiritual value. The premise that David's life serves as a strong metaphor of God's grace, forgiveness, and the possibility of spiritual growth and restoration is central to Maclaren's narrative. He depicts David as a highly flawed yet genuinely contrite character whose unwavering faith in God defines his legacy.

Expositions of Holy Scripture
Author: Alexander MacLaren
Publisher: CreateSpace
ISBN: 9781494979393
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 482
Book Description
Expositions of Holy Scripture, St. John, Bible Study Essentials, Alexander Maclaren, Includes, Vols. I and II, 'In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2. The same was in the beginning with God. 3. All things were made by Him; and without Him was not any thing made that was made. 4. In Him was life; and the life was the light of men. 5. And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not. 6. There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. 7. The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe. 8. He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. 9. That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world. 10. He was in the world, and the world was made by Him, and the world knew Him not. 11. He came unto His own, and His own received Him not. 12. But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name: 13. Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. 14. And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only-begotten of the Father, ) full of grace and truth.'-JOHN i. 1-14. The other Gospels begin with Bethlehem; John begins with 'the bosom of the Father.' Luke dates his narrative by Roman emperors and Jewish high-priests; John dates his 'in the beginning.' To attempt adequate exposition of these verses in our narrow limits is absurd; we can only note the salient points of this, the profoundest page in the New Testament.
