Book Description
Excerpt from Experimental Electrochemistry It has been the aim of the author to produce a book that will prove useful in both the lecture room and in the laboratory. Although a work upon the subject of electrochemistry must presuppose a working knowledge of chemistry and electricity, it has been the object of the writer to introduce the subject as clearly as possible, dealing with chemistry and electricity without assuming too much on the part of the student. The book is so written that it may be read through as a history by the student, presenting theory and practice together, with the introduction of an ample number of experiments to supply experimental evidence for the theories advanced. In the later and more practical part of the book, exercises in preparing electrolytic compounds and in isolating metals are introduced. It has also been the aim of the writer to introduce new material with suggestions for additional experiments with the hope that the work will not be unwelcome to those already well informed in the subject. Electrochemistry is at best a subject for the advanced student, and in order to carry out the experimental work with profit, as given here, he must have pursued beforehand laboratory courses in both chemistry and physics. If the more mature and experienced student profits by a study of the book, or the instructor obtains assistance in teaching or suggestions for new work, the object in writing the book will be attained. Introduction to Electrochemical Experiments (Classic Reprint) PDF Author: Felix Oettel

ISBN: 9781332238088
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 150

Book Description
Excerpt from Introduction to Electrochemical Experiments The purpose of this little volume is to furnish technical chemists and all persons interested in the applications of electricity to chemical manufacture with a concise guide, containing in a compact form all that is essential for the comprehension and solution of problems arising in this comparatively new field of chemical investigation. That it has in a measure fulfilled its mission is evidenced by the hearty reception and favorable criticism accorded it in its German home, and by its translation into Russian. That it may prove equally helpful to all its English-speaking readers is the hope of the translator, to whom it is a pleasure to acknowledge indebtedness to Prof. George F. Barker for advice and assistance in the preparation of the text and correction of the proof sheets. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Practical Methods of Electro-Chemistry (Classic Reprint)

Practical Methods of Electro-Chemistry (Classic Reprint) PDF Author: F. Mollwo Perkin
Publisher: Forgotten Books
ISBN: 9780331810813
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 340

Book Description
Excerpt from Practical Methods of Electro-Chemistry The reasons for writing this book - the first of its kind published in this country - have been twofold. In the first place, I have felt the want of such a book for my own students. In the second place, the work was undertaken in the hope that interest in electro-chemistry might be stimulated. The book has been some years in preparation, owing to the fact that I did not wish to include any experimental work which had not been personally tested or supervised. With a few exceptions - in the separation of the metals - all the experimental work has been carried out in the laboratories of the Borough Polytechnic Institute. All the possible methods of analysis have not been given, but those included have been found to give the best results. Many of the analytical methods are superior, in the ease with which they may be carried out and in accuracy, to ordinary chemical methods; others still leave a good deal to be desired. Book Description
Excerpt from The Elements of Electro-Chemistry: Treated Experimentally A hundred years have passed since the discovery Of the voltaic battery, that sim'ple. Apparatus' which has been the starting point of all those instriumenits. 'wherein galvanic currents are Obtained by combiniifg oconductors Of the first and second class. But although voltaic batteries have been used for SO long a time it was not until quite recently that the theory Of their action was made clear; for the theories that had been advanced, the contact theory and the chemical theory, did not suffice to give a satisfactory explanation of the production of the galvanic current.
