Book Description
Note: This is the FOURTH book in the Demons of Oblivion series, after Bloodlines, Hunter, and Lineage. The books in this series are NOT standalone. --------- Some people just won't stay buried... Zara Lain, narcissistic vampire and assassin, cleaned up after a crazy warlock tried to build a vampire army, made some cash when the North American covens were left in shambles, got away when framed for the murder of a Demon Hunter, and dealt with some idiots who tried to jumpstart Armageddon. None of that could prepare her, however, for the moment when her lover of the undead persuasion awakens... And promptly tries to kill her. She’s raised a handful of orphaned baby vampires during the past six years and she knows the score: if they don’t get sane again, they have to be staked. And even if she can fix her would-be boyfriend, he’s not the only formerly deceased one in town who wants to kill her. Old enemies are back to put a cramp in her love life, ruin a good pair of heels, and just maybe end the world. An apocalypse is nigh...and it gets a lot worse than having nothing to wear to the occasion.

Shakespeare Exhumed
Author: Peter D Matthews
Publisher: Bassano Publishing House
ISBN: 0987365266
Category : Drama
Languages : en
Pages : 317
Book Description
William Shakespeare is viewed today as the quintessential English writer who has continued to influence art, poetry, philosophy and even science for over four centuries. His graphic imagery of Venice, Padua and Verona carefully braided with poignant tragic wreckages of real life circumstances, shrewdly infused with the ancient Kabbalah and transcendent Platonism was nothing short of genius. That is, if he ever put pen to paper! These chronicles reveal documentary evidence to confirm who really penned the Shakespearean canon. For centuries these works have been accoladed as the very basis of English literature, yet the author might not have been English at all! Amidst the mischief, mayhem and murder, these chronicles answer all the questions, including one of the greatest discoveries of all time - who owned the finest collection of Venetian, Italian and Byzantinian jewellery in the world - The Cheapside Hoard.

Shakespearean Resurrection
Author: Sean Benson
Publisher: Penn State Press
ISBN: 0820705071
Category : Literary Criticism
Languages : en
Pages : 230
Book Description
This engaging book demonstrates Shakespeare’s abiding interest in the theatrical potential of the Christian resurrection from the dead. In fourteen of Shakespeare’s plays, characters who have been lost, sometimes for years, suddenly reappear seemingly returning from the dead. In the classical recognition scene, such moments are explained away in naturalistic terms a character was lost at sea but survived, or abducted and escaped, and so on. Shakespeare never invalidates such explanations, but in his manipulation of classical conventions he parallels these moments with the recognition scenes from the Gospels, repeatedly evoking Christ’s resurrection from the dead. Benson’s close study of the plays, as well as the classical and biblical sources that Shakespeare fuses into his recognition scenes, clearly elucidates the ways in which the playwright explored his abiding interest in the human desire to transcend death and to live reunited and reconciled with others. In his manipulation of resurrection imagery, Shakespeare conflates the material with the immaterial, the religious with the secular, and the sacred with the profane.

Crumpled Paper Dolls
Author: Matthew Nolan
Publisher: Matthew Nolan
ISBN: 0615126553
Category : Poetry
Languages : en
Pages : 230
Book Description
In Crumpled Paper Dolls: A New Orleans Poet, a book of poetry, prose, and journals, Matthew Nolan ignites our senses, depicts the world without filters, demands examination and self-reflection. With the vivid imagery of words, he holds a mirror to our face and makes us see all we hide away. This at first seems like a distortion, but is really an honesty that makes us uncomfortable. Nolan's journals chronicle the struggle of a man pursuing his dream in a world of trials and a mind of dark shadows. In Nolan's writing, nothing is good or bad. It just is. His writing takes us to a place we don't want to talk about, but now may be willing to discuss.

Exhuming Violent Histories
Author: Nicole Iturriaga
Publisher: Columbia University Press
ISBN: 0231553943
Category : Social Science
Languages : en
Pages : 295
Book Description
Winner, 2023 Charles Tilly Distinguished Contribution to Scholarship Book Award, Collective Behavior and Social Movements Section, American Sociological Association Honorable Mention, 2023 Peace, War, and Social Conflict Section Outstanding Book Award, Peace, War, and Social Conflict Section, American Sociological Association Many years after the fall of Franco’s regime, Spanish human rights activists have turned to new methods to keep the memory of state terror alive. By excavating mass graves, exhuming remains, and employing forensic analysis and DNA testing, they seek to provide direct evidence of repression and break through the silence about the dictatorship’s atrocities that persisted well into Spain’s transition to democracy. Nicole Iturriaga offers an ethnographic examination of how Spanish human rights activists use forensic methods to challenge dominant histories, reshape collective memory, and create new forms of transitional justice. She argues that by grounding their claims in science, activists can present themselves as credible and impartial, helping them intervene in fraught public disputes about the remembrance of the past. The perceived legitimacy and authenticity of scientific techniques allows their users to contest the state’s historical claims and offer new narratives of violence in pursuit of long-delayed justice. Iturriaga draws on interviews with technicians and forensics experts and provides a detailed case study of Spain’s best-known forensic human rights organization, the Association for the Recovery of Historical Memory. She also considers how the tools and tactics used in Spain can be adopted by human rights and civil society groups pursuing transitional justice in other parts of the world. An ethnographically rich account, Exhuming Violent Histories sheds new light on how science and technology intersect with human rights and collective memory.
