Book Description
The report suggests possible ways for further theoretical study of the interaction of an electron beam and the ions in a hot-electron plasma. Equations are obtained for beamplasma interaction in a filled cylindrical waveguide in which the thermal velocity distribution is longitudinal but otherwise arbitrary. An approximation is described based on these equations by using only one transverse wave number. A close resemblance is found between the approximate solutions and the theory of plane waves in an infinite beamplasma system, traveling at an angle with the direction of the beam and the magnetic field and having a certain fixed real transverse wave number. Advantage is taken of this resemblance to calculate beam- (hot-electron) plasma interaction including a transverse random velocity distribution. The theory of a filamentary beam is combined with that of a plasma-filled waveguide, using the coupling-of-modes theory, for the description of some of the weak interactions between a thin beam and a finite plasma. (Author).

Handbook on Plasma Instabilities

Handbook on Plasma Instabilities PDF Author: Ferdinand F. Cap
Publisher: Academic Press
ISBN: 148327098X
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 575

Book Description
Handbook on Plasma Instabilities, Volume 2 consists of four chapters on plasma instabilities. Chapter 14 discusses the various aspects of microinstabilities. Beam-plasma systems are covered in Chapter 15, while the various stabilization methods are presented in Chapter 16. This book concludes with deliberations on parametric effects in Chapter 17. Other topics discussed include the microinstabilities of a homogeneous unmagnetized plasma; kinetic theory of macroscopic instabilities; basic beam physics; and beam-plasma instabilities. The magnetic field configuration stabilization; macroscopic nonmagnetic stabilization methods; parametric instabilities in homogeneous unmagnetized plasmas; and parametric effects in bounded and inhomogeneous plasmas are also elaborated in this text. This publication is beneficial to students and researchers conducting work on unstable plasma.

Excitation of Longitudinal Oscillations of Magneto Active Plasma

Excitation of Longitudinal Oscillations of Magneto Active Plasma PDF Author: V. V. Angeleiko

Languages : en
Pages : 11

Book Description
The work investigates the excitation of longitudinal oscillations in a plasma consisting of two types of ions through which a stream of particles is moving under an arbitrary angle to the direction of the internal magnetic field. The dispersion relation for the plasma is analyzed and the relationship between its four roots is studied. In the presence of the stream, a new dispersion relation is written consisting of that for the plasma and the added term for the beam and for the interaction effects. This relationship is studied for the case of a cold stream under the conditions of Cerenkov resonance and for the case of a cold stream under conditions of anomalous Doppler effect. In addition, 'hot' beam interaction with the plasma is briefly discussed. The instability criteria and growth rates for the various waves are given under specified relationships between the frequencies characterizing the plasma and beam systems. (Author).

Collective Oscillations in a Plasma

Collective Oscillations in a Plasma PDF Author: A. I. Akhiezer
Publisher: Elsevier
ISBN: 1483185893
Category : Science
Languages : en
Pages : 201

Book Description
International Series of Monographs in Natural Philosophy: Collective Oscillations in a Plasma, Volume 7 presents specific topics within the general field of radio waves propagation. This book contains five chapters that address the theory of linear oscillations in a plasma, the spectra of the eigen oscillations, and the mechanism of high-frequency heating. The opening chapters deal with the self-consistent fields; development of initial perturbation; dispersion permittivity tensor of a plasma in a magnetic field; effect of thermal motion of particles on low-frequency resonances; excitation of oscillations by modulated azimuthal currents; and cyclotron damping of low-frequency oscillations. The next chapters describe the nature of beam instability, the fluctuations in a free equilibrium plasma, and the current causing scattered waves. A study of the probability of scattering is presented. The concluding chapters are devoted to the scattering of electromagnetic waves in a plasma-beam system and the coefficient of reflection determination. The book can provide useful information to scientists, physicists, students, and researchers.
