Book Description
Bachelor Thesis from the year 2024 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, grade: 1,0, University of Paderborn (Fakultät Wirtschaftswissenschaften), language: English, abstract: The purpose of this bachelor thesis was to investigate the relationship between corporate entrepreneurship (CE) (i.e., innovation, strategic renewal, and corporate venturing) and firm performance (i.e., financial, non-financial, subjective, and objective). For this purpose, a meta-analysis is performed, analyzing prior literature findings regarding the CE-performance relationship of 76 independent samples. The results indicate that innovation, strategic renewal, and corporate venturing each have a significant positive impact on firm performance. Results also suggest that the CE-performance relationship is stronger, when performance is assessed subjectively, as opposed to objectively. In addition to this, a moderator analysis is conducted, to evaluate whether the relationships vary between the firms’ country of origin. Results show that innovation, strategic renewal, and corporate venturing have a stronger effect on performance in Asian countries, than in European or American countries. Those findings are discussed and embedded in current literature. Lastly, practical implications and limitations are discussed.

Corporate Entrepreneurship and Innovation
Author: Paul Burns
Publisher: Bloomsbury Publishing
ISBN: 1350304883
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 503
Book Description
Written by a highly regarded expert on entrepreneurship, this bestselling textbook provides an engaging and comprehensive overview of corporate entrepreneurship. Now in its fourth edition and fully revised throughout, this accessible text is structured in four key parts that cover everything a student needs to know about the topic. After an initial consideration of what constitutes corporate entrepreneurship and innovation, the author then guides students through the four pillars of entrepreneurial architecture: culture, structure, leadership and strategy. The third section focusses on the entrepreneurial mind-set, including how to encourage creativity, business ideas and developing concepts. Finally, the book draws attention to corporate venturing, examining venture teams, intrapreneurs, market development and the role of shareholder value. It is no longer sufficient for businesses to grow simply by cutting costs and taking over competitors. To achieve true success, organisations must avoid an ageing product or service portfolio to bring new, innovative ideas to market. Corporate entrepreneurship is inherently risky and therefore requires a fresh approach to strategy. The approach Paul Burns offers will successfully overcome barriers to launching new ideas, internal challenges of managing creativity and show how to foster an entrepreneurial culture. This is the go-to textbook for all students studying Corporate Entrepreneurship, Intrapreneurship or Corporate Venturing at undergraduate, postgraduate or MBA level. The book is also essential reading for courses on Strategic Entrepreneurship and Innovation. New to this Edition: - Fully revised and updated content throughout with new four-part structure - Brand new case studies in every chapter, featuring some of the world's highest profile companies from across the globe - A greater focus on innovation, including a new chapter on this topic at the start of the book - New chapters on 'Developing a Business Model', 'Managing Change' and 'Managing Risk' - New on-page glossary with key terms highlighted in the text and defined in the margins - New Activities and Group Discussion topics at the end of each chapter

Family Business and Regional Development
Author: Rodrigo Basco
Publisher: Routledge
ISBN: 0429608993
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 280
Book Description
This book explores the relationship between families, firms, and regions and the extent to which these relationships contribute to regional economic and social development. Although family business participation in economic activities has been a common phenomenon since pre-industrial societies, and its importance has evolved throughout time and across spatial contexts, the book suggests that these factors have often been neglected in family business and regional studies. Taking this research gap into account, the book aims to deepen our understanding of the role family firms play in the regional economy. In particular, it explores two seldom studied questions. Firstly, what role do family firms play in regional development? Secondly, how do different spatial regional contexts shape family firm operations and performance? Family Business and Regional Development presents a model of "spatial familiness" and uses themes such as productivity, networks and competitiveness to shed new light on family businesses. Moreover, it approaches the juxtaposition between family business and regional studies to encourage the cross-fertilisation of ideas, theories, and research methods between the two fields. Bringing together leading experts in entrepreneurship, regional economics, and economic geography, this book will be a valuable reading for advanced students, researchers and policymakers interested in family firms, regional studies and economic geography.

Entrepreneurship and Firm Performance
Author: Antoinette Walsh
Publisher:
ISBN: 9781634843232
Category : Business enterprises
Languages : en
Pages : 0
Book Description
Entrepreneurship has been the focus of considerable interest in the policy and business circles in the past two decades. Against a backdrop of the recent global recession, downsizing by large firms and problems of inequality and unemployment in many countries in Europe and Africa, it is realized that vigorous entrepreneurship is critical for sustainable job creation, and for boosting tax revenue and economic growth in a society. This book provides current research on entrepreneurship and firm performance. The first chapter examines the nature of entrepreneurship by selectively drawing from the economic, management and psychological schools, and then presents an integrated electric view of entrepreneurship based on the different schools of thought. Chapter two theoretically examines the influence of international non-governmental organizations (INGOs), on local and international entrepreneurial activity stemming from emerging markets in light of globalisation and the aftermath of the global economic crisis. Chapter three examines the moderating effect of prior functional and prior founding experiences of the founders on the relationship between ecosystem and new venture growth. Chapter four justifies both theoretically and scientifically the emotional and social aspects of gender, and offers a new arena for sketching the figures of a man and a woman entrepreneur. Chapter five discusses topics of entrepreneurship in Brazil, focusing on psychosocial elements which impact entrepreneur's agency and considering cultural, social and psychological aspects which singularize such practice, potentially distinguishing it from other countries' experiences. Chapter six analyzes the situation of social entrepreneurship in Lithuania, emphasizing its policy and practice in the European Union (EU) context, striving for youth involvement in becoming social entrepreneurs. Chapter seven conducts an initial insight on the link between entrepreneurial motivations and performance in microfinance institutions (MFIs). The last chapter proposes a multidimensional approach to the study of entrepreneurship.

The Role of Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Economic Growth
Author: Michael J Andrews
Publisher: University of Chicago Press
ISBN: 022681078X
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 633
Book Description
"Innovation and entrepreneurship are ubiquitous today, both as fields of study and as starting points for conversations among experts in government and economic development. But while these areas on continue to attract public and private investments, many measurements of their resulting economic growth-including productivity growth and business dynamism-have remained modest. Why this difference? Because not all business sectors are the same, and the transformative gains of some industries have been offset by stagnation or contraction in others. Accordingly, a nuanced understanding of the economy requires a nuanced understanding of where innovation and entrepreneurship occur and where they matter. Answering these questions allows for strategic public investment and the infrastructure for economic growth. The Role of Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Economic Growth, the latest entry in the NBER conference series, seeks to codify these answers. The editors leverage industry studies to identify specific examples of productivity improvements enabled by innovation and entrepreneurship, including those from new production technologies, increased competition, new organizational forms, and other means. Taken together, the volume illuminates whether the contribution of innovation and entrepreneurship to economic growth is likely to be concentrated, be it selected sectors or more broadly"--
