The Pastor His Own Evangelist

The Pastor His Own Evangelist PDF Author: J. Wilbur Chapman
Publisher: Forgotten Books
ISBN: 9780331456196
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 504

Book Description
Excerpt from The Pastor His Own Evangelist: Methods, Texts, Seed Thoughts and Illustrations This book presents to us the ideal as regards evangelistic effort. There will always be a place in the Church for evangel ists who are called and equipped of God, and especially adapted by training and temperament to do a special work. I have always believed, and more firmly during the past few years than ever before, that the call to be an evangelist should be as distinct and clear as that which one receives to be a minister of the Gospel or a pastor of a Church. It ought to be true that every pastor would possess, in some slight degree at least, the gift to do evangelistic work, but even if this be true, neverthe less the fact remains as above stated, and in my own experience I was as clearly called to do the work to which I am now devot ing my life, as in the other days I was called to preach the Gospel in the church of a special congregation. However, I am clearly convinced that an evangelist cannot settle the prob lems of achurch, who as an emergency man is called to ren der a service which, when it is needed at all, is sorely needed. The only man of all others who can do this work and do it well, and do it continually, is the pastor himself. Any form of general evangelistic effort which does not leave him strong er in the afiection of his people is not worth while, and any evangelistic effort which fails to make his work easier when the special helper is gone, is not worthy of the name. Each pastor should be his own evangelist; at the same time, he should hold himself in readiness to assist his brother min isters. This is an ideal position to take and the suggestions made by the author of this book are practical and helpful. Book Description
Excerpt from Every-Day Evangelism: Personal, Trained, Co-Operative The remedy for all this is a new spiritual move ment, a gracious reinspiration of the Church, such as God effected through the Wesleys and their helpers. How shall it be realized? In answer to prayer, and by the introduction of many Christian people into such a love of Christ and desire for the coming of His kingdom as results only from the effort to bring others into a new life, or to lead them to dedicate themselves to the Offices of Christian usefulness. The Evangelist

The Evangelist PDF Author: Wm P. Nicholson
Publisher: Forgotten Books
ISBN: 9780483553873
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 130

Book Description
Excerpt from The Evangelist: His Ministry and Message There is a disposition in these times to belittle the work and the office of the evangelist. We can understand this, so far as the modernists are concerned, because the whole appeal of the true evangelist is to the saving power of God in Christ Jesus and the Holy Spirit. His only message is the gospel. The modernist either denies or has lost faith (if he ever had any) in the gospel. He denies the necessity of being born again. His message is character, not calvary. His appeal is not to the Holy Spirit and His work of convicting of sin, and persuading and enabling the Sinner to believe in Jesus Christ as his one and only Saviour. He appeals to the will and self-respect of man, so we can understand the modernist's position and attitude to the evangelist and evangelistic work. In addition to the opposition of the modernists, there is a tendency in many churches to criticize and belittle the evangelists, and to ignore them in all church plans, or to encourage the pastors to carry on evangelistic campaigns Without them. This is contrary to the Word of God and the historical practice of the Church. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. The Care of Souls

The Care of Souls PDF Author: Harold L. Senkbeil
Publisher: Lexham Press
ISBN: 1683593022
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 268

Book Description
Drawing on a lifetime of pastoral experience, The Care of Souls is a beautifully written treasury of proven wisdom which pastors will find themselves turning to again and again. Harold Senkbeil helps remind pastors of the essential calling of the ministry: preaching and living out the Word of God while orienting others in the same direction. And he offers practical and fruitful adviceâ€"born out of his five decades as a pastorâ€"that will benefit both new pastors and those with years in the pulpit. In a time when many churches have lost sight of the real purpose of the church, The Care of Souls invites a new generation of pastors to form the godly habits and practical wisdom needed to minister to the hearts and souls of those committed to their care.

Sane Evangelism (Classic Reprint) PDF Author: Wm Wistar Hamilton

Pages : 224

Book Description
Excerpt from Sane Evangelism A book on sane evangelism certainly finds a wide field of usefulness awaiting it. I am greatly pleased with the form Of words same evangelism. The phrase connects two ideas which belong together. Evangelism is one Of the most tremendous Of all the agencies of Christianity. I presume the need for a sane type Of evangelism will be conceded by all. There are churches in some regions which have been swept by a kind of evangelism which has left them twice dead, plucked up by the roots. The kind of evangelism which appeals solely to the emotions, which relies upon clap-trap and ma chinery, which in a superficial manner skims over the surface, and appeals only to those susceptible of being influenced by the spectacular, is not the kind which leaves a salutary condition in its wake. Churches which have suffered thus are to be pitied. On the other hand, churches in large numbers there are which are dying for the lack Of evangelism - churches which have conceived a prejudice against the whole idea Of evangelism, and which have gone on in their unfruitful way for many years. What they need is a profound revival Of their spiritual life. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
