In June 1991, the federal Cabinet authorized a new on-reserve First Nations Policing Policy and Program approving $116.8 million in incremental funding over five years (1991/92 - 1995/96) to implement the Policy and Program. Subsequently, the Prime Minister transferred the responsibility for First Nations policing from the Dept. of Indian and Northern Affairs to Solicitor General Canada. The transition occurred durinor iscal year 1991/92. The First Nations Policing Policy and Program of Solicitor Canada are now managed by the Aboriginal Policing Directorate (AP#x10;D). The Directorate has been operational since April 1992.
