Due Diligence and Risk Assessment of an Alternative Investment Fund

Due Diligence and Risk Assessment of an Alternative Investment Fund PDF Author: Ingrid Vancas
Publisher: Diplomica Verlag
ISBN: 3836685930
Category : Business & Economics
Languages : en
Pages : 103

Book Description
The aim of the book is to provide practical guidance for the investor when compiling due diligence and deciding on an investment or against it. The focus of the book lays on the risk assessment and due diligence. It captures fund's internal and external risks and the investment style specific risks. The aim is to provide sound guidance to the alternative investment fund selection. The UCITS 3 directive widens investment tools for the traditional asset managers by allowing short selling of securities and diminishing the gap between the traditional and the alternative asset management industry and attracting traditional managers to the alternative investment universe. The author concentrates on three categories: Relative Value and Market Neutral, Event Driven and Opportunistic alternative investment funds. Whilst the industry is generally categorized into certain fund types it has to be stated that every fund is different and will have different risk attributes. Within the specific categories major risks will be the same, as the exposure towards the specific underlying will be similar. Still every single fund has to be examined on its own in detail, as it will have the specific alpha generating competitive advantage. Thus the author suggests a pre-selection of the potential fund manager or the management team by analysing the team and the fund's performance first. The analysis goes through the quantitative figures and the qualities of the management team. Detailed knowledge about the strategies and its fit into the portfolio is worthless unless the investor is able to select the performing manager. Without that skill the probability of ending up with an underperforming alternative investment fund or a blow-up is huge. The analysis of the management team qualities shows behaviour patterns helping to detect management teams, which are tending towards moral hazard. Secondly, the alternative investment fund style specific risks are examined. The author gives an overview

Legal and Ethical Concerns in Treating Kidney Failure

Legal and Ethical Concerns in Treating Kidney Failure PDF Author: E.A. Friedman
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 9401143552
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 221

Book Description
Once dialysis treatment, in 1960, permitted life prolongation for some but not all patients in kidney failure, an `ethical genie' was released. The introduction of peritoneal dialysis and kidney transplantation compounded the physician's dilemma by underscoring those left untreated. Who should be selected for uremia therapy? Should exclusion from treatment be properly delegated to administrators or physicians, or better left to a committee? Are some candidates more worthy than others? As examples: Do Presidents and Kings warrant priority in cadaver organ allocation over ordinary citizens? Are rich people more deserving than the poor? Is it ethical to choose a younger over an older patient? Can children and/or mentally incompetent persons serve as living organ donors? Is it proper to market organs under controlled circumstances? Eli A. Friedman, an experienced nephrology training program director, and Medical Advisor to the American Association of Kidney Patients, has collected 24 difficult cases that focus on these and other vexing though common stressful issues faced by those who manage kidney patients. Using a novel approach to each case, the opinions of lawyers, nephrologists, patients, and a transplant surgeon are proffered sequentially. Friedman asks and then answers searching questions arising from the debate. The quality of information presented is positively flavored by the fact that three of the respondents (one an attorney) are kidney transplant recipients. Members of the kidney team, those immersed in seeking truth in medical ethics, and all participating in exploring the legality or ethical basis of organ replacement will find this book pertinent to their effort.

Book Description
These Proceedings are the work of researchers contributing to the 2nd International Conference on Cloud Security Management Security (ICCSM 2014), being held this year at the University of Reading, UK on the 23-24 October 2014, . The conference chair is Dr John McCarthy, Vice President, from the Cyber Security, ServiceTech, UK and the Programme Chair is Dr. Barbara Endicott-Popovsky, from the Center for Information Assurance and Cybersecurity, University of Washington, Seattle, USA. As organisations rush to adopt Cloud Computing at a rate faster than originally projected, it is safe to predict that, over the coming years, Cloud Computing will have major impacts, not only on the way we conduct science and research, but also on the quality of our daily human lives. Computation research, education, and business communities have been exploring the potential benefits of Cloud Computing and the changes these imply. Experts have predicted that the move to the cloud will alter significantly the content of IT jobs, with cloud clients needing fewer hands-on skills and more skills that administer and manage information. Bill Gates was recently quoted: "How you gather, manage, and use information will determine whether you win or lose." Cloud Computing impacts will be broad and pervasive, applying to public and private institutions alike.
