Performance of 17 Inch Shock Tube Using Small High Pressure Shock Valves
Author: W. A. Jones

Pages : 10
Book Description
Due to the possible need at Suffield Experimental Station of a large cross-section shock tube, and investigation was conducted to evaluate the feasibility of using small diameter high pressure shock valves as compression chambers. The evaluation program involved the use of two high pressure drivers, the standard SES 4 inch shock valve and a new straight flow 2000 psi shock valve. The compression waves from these drivers were allowed to expand into a 17 inch diameter expansion chamber. Pressure-time records from the 17 inch diameter expansion chamber showed that well defined shock fronts and durations were obtained using these systems.

Test and Evaluation of Antiblast Valves for Protective Ventilating Systems
Author: Frank C. Allen

Category : Blast effect

Pages : 46
Book Description
The valves were instrumented to obtain the pressure time measurements inside the weatherproof hood and in the test cell and expansion chamber and a position-time measurement for each valve disk. The reflected pressure-time measurements at the face of each wall upon which horizontal valves were mounted were also obtained. All pressure-sensitive valves closed upon arrival of the shock wave and reopened after the pressure had subsided. The 16-in. thermal triggered remotely operated valve closed in advance of the shock-wave arrival and remained closed for the period of the test.

Book Description
This volume contains the proceedings of a symposium held at the University of Toronto in June 1969. The symposium consisted of six sessions; each containing an invited paper, followed by six contributed papers reporting on recent, relevant research and development. The topics are: a review of research problems in basic shock tube flows and the possibilities for the shock tube in the future; driving techniques; explosive drivers; theoretical and experimental research in electromagnetic shock tubes; chemical kinetics and spectroscopy; and a review of shock tube diagnostics, instrumentation and fundamental data as well as the measurement of physical quantities.
