Ambulatory Impedance Cardiography

Ambulatory Impedance Cardiography PDF Author: Gerard Cybulski
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 3642119875
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 121

Book Description
The book is divided in 4 parts. In the first one, the importance of the analysis of the cardiac dynamics using the ambulatory monitoring technique is presented. The second part contains the description of foundations of impedance cardiography (ICG), the models used to describe the ICG technique and the description of available systems for ambulatory monitoring of cardiac hemodynamics. The third part is devoted to the validation of the ambulatory ICG method, the verification of the quality of long term ICG recordings and the discussion of the limitations of this technique. In the last part, some clinical and research applications of the ICG ambulatory monitoring are presented. The simultaneous recordings of electrocardiogram (ECG) and ICG in the transient cardiac arrhythmia events illustrate the potential applications of that method for quantitative analysis of hemodynamics when the implementation of the stationary methods would be either difficult or not possible to do. The book is followed by references, alphabetical index and appendices containing the technical data of the available systems for portable monitoring of cardiac hemodynamics.

Principles of Applied Biomedical Instrumentation

Principles of Applied Biomedical Instrumentation PDF Author: L. A. Geddes
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
ISBN: 0471608998
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 994

Book Description
Encyclopedia of Medical Devices and Instrumentation John G. Webster, Editor-in-Chief This comprehensive encyclopedia, the work of more than 400 contributors, includes 266 articles on devices and instrumentation that are currently or likely to be useful in medicine and biomedical engineering. The four volumes include 3,022 pages of text that concentrates on how technology assists the branches of medicine. The articles emphasize the contributions of engineering, physics, and computers to each of the general areas of medicine, and are designed not for peers, but rather for workers from related fields who wish to take a first look at what is important in the subject. Highly recommended for university biomedical engineering and medical reference collections, and for anyone with a science background or an interest in technology. Includes a 78-page index, cross-references, and high-quality diagrams, illustrations, and photographs. 1988 (0 471-82936-6) 4-Volume Set Introduction to Radiological Physics and Radiation Dosimetry Frank Herbert Attix provides complete and useful coverage of radiological physics. Unlike most treatments of the subject, it encompasses radiation dosimetry in general, rather than discussing only its applications in medical or health physics. The treatment flows logically from basics to more advanced topics. Coverage extends through radiation interactions to cavity theories and dosimetry of X-rays, charged particles, and neutrons. Several important subjects that have never been thoroughly analyzed in the literature are treated here in detail, such as charged-particle equilibrium, broad-beam attenuation and geometries, derivation of the Kramers X-ray spectrum, and the reciprocity theorem, which is also extended to the nonisotropic homogeneous case. 1986 (0 471-01146-0) 607 pp. Medical Physics John R. Cameron and James G. Skofronick This detailed text describes medical physics in a simple, straightforward manner. It discusses the physical principles involved in the control and functon of organs and organ systems such as the eyes, ears, lungs, heart, and circulatory system. There is also coverage of the application of mechanics, heat, light, sound, electricity, and magnetism to medicine, particularly of the various instruments used for the diagnosis and treatment of disease. 1978 (0 471-13131-8) 615 pp.

Pages : 699

Book Description
Advances in Cardiovascular Technology: New Devices and Concepts is a comprehensive reference for cardiovascular devices of all types. For engineers, this book provides a basic understanding of underlying pathologies and their prevalence/incidence. It also covers what devices are available, how they are clinically used, and their impact on pathophysiology. In addition, the book presents the constraints imposed on device design and manufacture by the environment in which it is used (e.g., exposure to tissues within the body, blood in particular) and the primary requirements for each specific type of device, including its durability and resistance to fatigue. For clinicians, this book contains information on primary engineering challenges, the types of devices available, their advantages and disadvantages, and the (current and emerging) tools and materials available to device designers. - Covers innovative procedures and devices in cardiovascular technology - Gives an overview of the state-of-the-art technology and a view to the future - Features contributions from engineers, clinicians and researchers, taking an interdisciplinary view of the field

Cardiovascular Pediatric Critical Illness and Injury

Cardiovascular Pediatric Critical Illness and Injury PDF Author: Derek S. Wheeler
Publisher: Springer Science & Business Media
ISBN: 1848009232
Category : Medical
Languages : en
Pages : 294

Book Description
The development of pediatric cardiac surgical programs has had a profound effect on the s- cialty of pediatric critical care medicine, and as a result, the ? eld of pediatric cardiac intensive care is rapidly emerging as a separate subspecialty of pediatric critical care medicine. The ability to provide care for the critically ill child with congenital heart disease clearly separates pediatric intensivists from our adult colleagues. A thorough understanding and knowledge of the unique physiology of the child with congenital heart disease are therefore absolutely crucial for anyone working in the pediatric intensive care unit. Once again, we would like to dedicate this textbook to our families and to the physicians and nurses who provide steadfast care every day in pe- atric intensive care units across the globe. Derek S. Wheeler Hector R. Wong Thomas P. Shanley v Preface to Pediatric Critical Care Medicine: Basic Science and Clinical Evidence The ? eld of critical care medicine is growing at a tremendous pace, and tremendous advances in the understanding of critical illness have been realized in the last decade. My family has directly bene? ted from some of the technological and scienti? c advances made in the care of critically ill children. My son Ryan was born during my third year of medical school. By some peculiar happenstance, I was nearing completion of a 4-week rotation in the newborn intensive care unit (NICU).
