La personne âgée est à considérer avec une attention toute particulière du fait de sa forte susceptibilité aux évènements iatrogènes médicamenteux. Ceci s'explique par la modification de leur métabolisme, la polymédication et par des phénomènes de non-observance. Les personnes âgées sont les plus grands consommateurs de benzodiazépines mais leur utilisation en tant qu'hypnotique dans cette tranche d'âge n'est pas sans risque. Les effets indésirables des benzodiazépines comme la dépendance, la confusion ou encore les chutes peuvent avoir des conséquences graves sur leur qualité de vie. Nous avons voulu par une étude descriptive basée sur un questionnaire fermé connaître les connaissances et attitudes des personnes âgées concernant leur traitement hypnotique par benzodiazépines. Les résultats ont montré que les personnes âgées connaissaient globalement bien les effets de leur traitement mais qu'elles ne connaissaient en revanche pas leurs effets indésirables et surtout les plus graves pour eux. Les sources de leurs informations à propos de leur traitement hypnotique apparaissent être essentiellement les notices et les pictogrammes présents sur les conditionnements secondaires des médicaments.

Childen's palliative care has developed rapidly as a discipline, as health care professionals recognize that the principles of adult palliative care may not always be applicable to children at the end of life. The unique needs of dying children are particularly evident across Africa, where the scale of the problem is overwhelming, and the figures so enormous that they are barely comprehensible: over 400,000 children in Africa died from AIDS in 2003, and out of the 166,000 children a year diagnosed with cancer, 85% of these are in the developing world. Despite the enormous need, provision of children's palliative care in Africa is almost non-existent, with very few health workers trained and confident to provide care for dying children.
