Resumen: En una ciudad como Pereira, en donde la cantidad y calidad del suministro de agua de red es bastante alta se ha concebido la posibilidad de utilizar sistemas de aprovechamiento de agua diferentes como lo es el agua lluvia o el agua gris para utilizarlo en las actividades domésticas de la vivienda; lo anterior como una posibilidad de reducción de consumo de agua y de la presión sobre los ecosistemas; sin embargo surge la pregunta ¿son estos sistemas de aprovechamiento un alternativa ecológica en una ciudad con abundancia de agua? Esta investigación hace uso de 2 software que utilizan el análisis de ciclo de vida de productos para determinar el potencial de cambio climático de la implementación de sistemas de aprovechamiento de agua lluvia y agua gris en 6 diferentes tipos de vivienda urbana de Pereira; al comparar sus resultados con el potencial de cambio climático del agua de red se descubre que en su mayoría utilizar sistemas de aprovechamiento de este tipo pueden tener un mayor impacto sobre el medio ambiente que solo usar el agua de red, pues algunos de estos sistemas requieren de gran cantidad de materiales, tratamiento o sistemas de bombeo que usan más energía y materiales que el agua de red.

Resumen: En la actualidad existen pocas investigaciones sobre el análisis ambiental del aprovechamiento y reutilización de recursos locales, excedentarios y/o alternativos en la construcción y uso de la vivienda. Estas investigaciones son necesarias para potenciar el desarrollo de viviendas más sostenibles, desde la adopción y reconocimiento de estrategias locales, innovadoras y de relativa simplicidad. En la vivienda, el uso de agua no convencional (pluvial, gris) en diferentes escalas urbanas (unidad habitacional, edificio, barrio y ciudad) puede constituir una estrategia que contribuya al cierre del ciclo del agua en las áreas urbanas, promoviendo alternativas de suministro con menor impacto ambiental que la oferta del agua de red centralizada. Al respecto el uso de agua no convencional en áreas urbanas todavía enfrenta diversos obstáculos, puesto que a la fecha no existen instrumentos normativos en el país que obliguen al uso de estas fuentes de recursos aprovechables y renovables en la construcción de nuevas edificaciones.
