The Mississippi River Festival

The Mississippi River Festival PDF Author: Amanda Bahr-Evola

Book Description
In 1969, Southern Illinois University Edwardsville initiated a remarkable performing arts series called the Mississippi River Festival. Over 12 summer seasons, between 1969 and 1980, the festival presented 353 events showcasing performers in a variety of musical genres, including classical, chamber, vocal, ragtime, blues, folk, bluegrass, barbershop, country, and rock, as well as dance and theater. During those years, more than one million visitors flocked to the spacious Gyo Obata-designed campus in the countryside near St. Louis. The Mississippi River Festival began as a partnership promoting regional cooperation in the realm of the performing arts. Southern Illinois University Edwardsville invited the St. Louis Symphony to establish residence on campus and to offer a summer season. To host the symphony, the university created an outdoor concert venue within a natural amphitheater by installing a large circus tent, a stage and acoustic shell, and a sophisticated sound system. To appeal to the widest possible audience, the university included contemporary popular musicians in the series. The audacity of the undertaking, the charm of the venue, the popularity of the artists, the excellence of the performances, and the nostalgic memory of warm summer evenings have combined to endow the festival with legendary status among those who attended.

Christian Atheist

Christian Atheist PDF Author: Brian Mountford
Publisher: John Hunt Publishing
ISBN: 1846949297
Category : Religion
Languages : en
Pages : 140

Book Description
Christian Atheist examines the growing religious phenomenon of those who are drawn to Christianity without accepting its metaphysical claims or dogma. Throughout the history of the Church there have been many people like this who have sat differently to the central creedal claims, but in the contemporary 'god delusion' culture, more are coming out to claim acceptance for their views. The key to the book is a set of interviews with people who fall broadly into the 'Christian Atheist' category; some are more agnostic and less sceptical than others, but what they have in common is the rejection of traditional belief in God, counterbalanced by an admiration for the aesthetic genius of Christianity (leading to a sense of deeper value), the Christian moral compass, and in some cases the community aspect of Christian life.

Book Description
A jealous fairy pines over the beautiful Kenna, who supposedly gave her heart to a mortal and plans to bring him back from the dead. This enrages the fairy prince who desperately wants to prevent their reunion. Prince Azuriel has spent more than a thousand years loving the fairy Kenna. He’s suffered in silence as the devious Puck has led him to believe Kenna’s affection for the human, Prince Albion. Albion has been dead for years but Azuriel is convinced that he will return. Prior to his arrival, he demands Albion marries a mortal woman to ensure Kenna for himself. Puck must manipulate a human couple and create a fake wedding for a man that no longer exists. A Princess of Kensington is a fantastical comic opera full of humor and hijinks. The production debuted in both London and New York in 1903. It was one of many successful collaborations between Edward German and Basil Hood. With an eye-catching new cover, and professionally typeset manuscript, this edition of A Princess of Kensington is both modern and readable.
