Cette étude a pour principal objectif d'établir les caractéristiques techniques et typologiques des bijoux en or trouvés ou fabriqués en Egypte au cours des périodes ptolémaïque et romaine. Elle se base sur un catalogue contenant deux cent deux bijoux classés suivant une typologie morphologique. Ils proviennent des collections du Musée égyptien du Caire, du British Museum, du Musée du Louvre, de l'Ashmolean Museum d'Oxford, du Metropolitan Museum of Art et du Brooklyn Museum of Art de New York. Chacun d'entre eux fait l'objet d'une notice avec description technique et commentaire afin de le replacer dans son contexte historique et de déterminer sa chronologie. La seconde partie est réservée à l'étude détaillée des techniques de bijouterie évoquées dans le catalogue. Toutes les étapes du travail de l'or sont traitées, de l'extraction du minerai jusqu'aux restaurations des bijoux. Dans une troisième et dernière partie, la recherche porte sur la place des bijoux et des bijoutiers dans la société Egyptienne tardive. Ily est question du quotidien des orfèvres, de l'exercice de leur métier, de leurs méthodes de production et de leur clientèle
