Sampling and Estimation from Finite Populations

Sampling and Estimation from Finite Populations PDF Author: Yves Tille
Publisher: John Wiley & Sons
ISBN: 0470682051
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 447

Book Description
A much-needed reference on survey sampling and its applications that presents the latest advances in the field Seeking to show that sampling theory is a living discipline with a very broad scope, this book examines the modern development of the theory of survey sampling and the foundations of survey sampling. It offers readers a critical approach to the subject and discusses putting theory into practice. It also explores the treatment of non-sampling errors featuring a range of topics from the problems of coverage to the treatment of non-response. In addition, the book includes real examples, applications, and a large set of exercises with solutions. Sampling and Estimation from Finite Populations begins with a look at the history of survey sampling. It then offers chapters on: population, sample, and estimation; simple and systematic designs; stratification; sampling with unequal probabilities; balanced sampling; cluster and two-stage sampling; and other topics on sampling, such as spatial sampling, coordination in repeated surveys, and multiple survey frames. The book also includes sections on: post-stratification and calibration on marginal totals; calibration estimation; estimation of complex parameters; variance estimation by linearization; and much more. Provides an up-to-date review of the theory of sampling Discusses the foundation of inference in survey sampling, in particular, the model-based and design-based frameworks Reviews the problems of application of the theory into practice Also deals with the treatment of non sampling errors Sampling and Estimation from Finite Populations is an excellent book for methodologists and researchers in survey agencies and advanced undergraduate and graduate students in social science, statistics, and survey courses.

Survey Sampling Theory and Applications

Survey Sampling Theory and Applications PDF Author: Raghunath Arnab
Publisher: Academic Press
ISBN: 0128118970
Category : Mathematics
Languages : en
Pages : 932

Book Description
Survey Sampling Theory and Applications offers a comprehensive overview of survey sampling, including the basics of sampling theory and practice, as well as research-based topics and examples of emerging trends. The text is useful for basic and advanced survey sampling courses. Many other books available for graduate students do not contain material on recent developments in the area of survey sampling. The book covers a wide spectrum of topics on the subject, including repetitive sampling over two occasions with varying probabilities, ranked set sampling, Fays method for balanced repeated replications, mirror-match bootstrap, and controlled sampling procedures. Many topics discussed here are not available in other text books. In each section, theories are illustrated with numerical examples. At the end of each chapter theoretical as well as numerical exercises are given which can help graduate students. - Covers a wide spectrum of topics on survey sampling and statistics - Serves as an ideal text for graduate students and researchers in survey sampling theory and applications - Contains material on recent developments in survey sampling not covered in other books - Illustrates theories using numerical examples and exercises

The Efficient Use of Supplementary Information in Finite Population Sampling

The Efficient Use of Supplementary Information in Finite Population Sampling PDF Author: Rajesh Singh
Publisher: Infinite Study
ISBN: 1599732750
Category : Population
Languages : en
Pages : 73

Book Description
The purpose of writing this book is to suggest some improved estimators using auxiliary information in sampling schemes like simple random sampling, systematic sampling and stratified random sampling. This volume is a collection of five papers, written by nine co-authors (listed in the order of the papers): Rajesh Singh, Mukesh Kumar, Manoj Kr. Chaudhary, Cem Kadilar, Prayas Sharma, Florentin Smarandache, Anil Prajapati, Hemant Verma, and Viplav Kr. Singh. In first paper dual to ratio-cum-product estimator is suggested and its properties are studied. In second paper an exponential ratio-product type estimator in stratified random sampling is proposed and its properties are studied under second order approximation. In third paper some estimators are proposed in two-phase sampling and their properties are studied in the presence of non-response. In fourth chapter a family of median based estimator is proposed in simple random sampling. In fifth paper some difference type estimators are suggested in simple random sampling and stratified random sampling and their properties are studied in presence of measurement error.

A Family of Estimators for Estimating The Population Mean in Stratified Sampling

A Family of Estimators for Estimating The Population Mean in Stratified Sampling PDF Author: Rajesh Singh
Publisher: Infinite Study
ISBN:
Category :

Pages : 9

Book Description
In this chapter, we have suggested an improved estimator for estimating the population mean in stratified sampling in presence of auxiliary information. The mean square error (MSE) of the proposed estimator have been derived under large sample approximation.

Development of Estimation Procedure of Population Mean in Two-Phase Stratified Sampling

Development of Estimation Procedure of Population Mean in Two-Phase Stratified Sampling PDF Author: Arnab Bandyopadhyay
Publisher:
ISBN:
Category : Electronic books
Languages : en
Pages : 0

Book Description
This article describes the problem of estimation of finite population mean in two-phase stratified random sampling. Using information on two auxiliary variables, a class of product to regression chain type estimators has been proposed and its characteristic is discussed. The unbiased version of the proposed class of estimators has been constructed and the optimality condition for the proposed class of estimators is derived. The efficacy of the proposed methodology has been justified through empirical investigations carried over the data set of natural population as well as the data set of artificially generated population. The survey statistician may be suggested to use it.
