Book Description
Excerpt from Estimating Concrete Buildings The actual procedure of concrete construction is still very far from approximating standard practice. Still less has there emerged any generally accepted system for keeping track of the individual cost of the innumerable items that enter into this type of work. Hence no satisfactory basis has been supplied for making estimates in advance of the actual undertaking. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Estimate Cost of a Concrete Building (Classic Reprint)

Estimate Cost of a Concrete Building (Classic Reprint) PDF Author: J. L. Farrelly
Publisher:
ISBN: 9781330490426
Category : Technology & Engineering
Languages : en
Pages : 40

Book Description
Excerpt from Estimate Cost of a Concrete Building The necessity to know the cost of a structure, after the plans have been drawn up, is to put engineering designs and computations in language that the business man or layman is able to perceive instantly, if that is what is desired. Buildings, more than any other kind of structure require an estimated cost for the reason that the men most interested in its design and completion are not of an engineering profession and are not trained to think along mathematical lines. After the plans of a building have been conpiled by an Architect, it is an engineer's problem, not only to design the steel work, but at the end to make an investigation of the cost of the building, which will enable himself, or his employer, to select a contractor, whose figure most closely approaches the cost estimated. The same method as was used for the estimate of the foregoing plans may be used for a building of any size. Book Description
Excerpt from Estimating Building Costs Learning to estimate buildings is not quite the same as learning a language, but it is often better to begin with a little book rather than a large one. This is a small book as compared with The New Building Estimator, of which twelve edi tions were issued up to date, but will be of great service to thousands who might at first consider the larger work too comprehensive. This book will act as a feeder to the other. An endeavor has been made here to present facts in plain language. I gained my knowledge of estimating through experience; but on looking back I can see how much time and guesswork would have been saved had I simply had a small reliable manual to give a fair idea of what others had accomplished in a certain number of hours; and what amount of material is required for the different parts of a building. Wright on Quantities

Wright on Quantities PDF Author: G. Alexander Wright

Book Description
Excerpt from Wright on Quantities: A Plea for a Better System of Estimating, Cost of Buildings in the United States The great difference we find in bids arises, in my opinion, not so much in the prices or money values placed against the quantities, as it does from errors in the quantities themselves, the accurate preparation of which calls for special training and continuous concentration of mind, which the busy contractor of today can seldom find time to acquire. N ow we will investigate a bill of quantities, such as we are considering. What is it? And how is it used? First of all, it is a document, handed free of expense to each bidder, lithographed or similarly duplicated, in order that all bidders' copies may be exactly alike. It will contain every thing which it is essential for a contractor to know when mak ing up a figure, with a separate section for each trade, such as excavation, concrete, brickwork, and so forth. A general sum mary is provided at the end of the bill, in which is entered the net cost of each trade; this summary is footed up, the profit the bidder expects to make is added, plus the cost of the quantities, the result being, of course, the amount of the bid.
