Book Description

Cohabitation, Family & Society

Cohabitation, Family & Society PDF Author: Tiziana Nazio
Publisher: Routledge
ISBN: 1134205627
Category : Social Science
Languages : en
Pages : 284

Book Description
This book deals with the process of the diffusion of cohabitation in Europe and discusses its impact upon fundamental changes in family formation. It makes use of highly dynamic statistical modelling that takes into account both changes occurring along the life course (individuals’ biographies) and across birth cohorts of individuals (generational change) in a comparative perspective. It is thus innovative methodologically, but is written in such a way as to be easily readable by those with little knowledge of quantitative methods. The approach proposed is empirically tested on a selection of European countries: the social democratic Sweden, the conservative-corporatist France and West Germany, the former socialist East Germany, and the familistic Italy and Spain. The theory and its application are described in a clear and simple manner, making the arguments and their illustrations accessible to those from a variety of disciplines. The study shows evidence of the ‘contagiousness’ of cohabitation, providing new insights on a process relevant to many social science debates. It is thus directed to those interested in the mechanisms driving social and cultural change, the nature of demographic changes, as well as diffusion processes.

The contributors provide expert accounts of contemporary Spain, making the Oxford Handbook of Spanish Politics an invaluable resource for anyone interested in Spanish politics and government since the country's transition to democracy.

The Palgrave Handbook of the Sociology of Work in Europe

The Palgrave Handbook of the Sociology of Work in Europe PDF Author: Paul Stewart
Publisher: Springer
ISBN: 3319932063
Category : Social Science
Languages : en
Pages : 440

Book Description
This book explores the key conceptual features of the development of the Sociology of Work (SoW) in Europe since 1945, using eleven country case studies. An original contribution to our understanding of the trajectory of the SoW, the chapters map the current state of the theoretical background of the sub-discipline's development to broader socio-political and economic changes, traced across a heterogeneous set of national contexts. Different definitions of the SoW in each country often reflect variations in the focus of analysis, and these chapters link the subject definition and focus to other social science disciplines, the state, as well as social class interests and ideologies. The book contends that the ways in which the sub-discipline makes sense of changes in work is itself a response to the type of society in which the sub-discipline is practiced, whether in the post-war social democratic West, the Soviet East, or today's societies, dominated by variant forms of neo-liberalism. It will be of use to scholars and students interested in the transnational history of the discipline of sociology, with a specific focus on the nexus between the sociology of labour, ideology, economics and politics.

Immigration-crime link. On falseness and inevitability. PDF Author: Ana María López Narbona
Publisher: Dykinson
ISBN: 8413776864
Category : Law
Languages : en
Pages :

Book Description
As a key outcome of the book, a statistical analysis will be carried out to confirm social groups´ homogeneity and confrontation within the Spanish society. Data for the statistical analysis are taken from Survey number 2967 of 2012 of Centro de Investigaciones Sociológicas (CIS). The statistical analysis is very important to understand how identity theories work in Spanish society. Indeed, social identities within the Spanish society are homogeneous, dialectical, and confrontational. Therefore, answers of respondents on immigration-crime link are necessarily homogeneous, dialectical and confrontational. Hence the paradox “on falseness and inevitability”.
