El presente estudio versa acerca de la vocación y esencia del servidor público, sus responsabilidades, obligaciones y deberes. Siguiendo los planteamientos de Max Weber se diferencia entre el político propiamente tal y el servidor público, los cuales seguirían una moralidad un tanto diferente. Dicha diferenciación sería, según el sociólogo alemán un fenómeno moderno al crearse un Estado de Derecho con una compleja administración pública a su servicio. Se estudian también algunos conceptos medulares tanto desde la perspectiva ética como del servicio público tales como la honestidad, la responsabilidad, la justicia y la finalidad del Estado en función del Bien común. Se analizan los deberes propios de los servidores públicos como la diligencia en el trabajo, la obediencia y respeto a la autoridad, la cooperación, entre otros muchos. Coherente con la explicitación de estos deberes, se analizarán las diferentes modalidades de corrupción que tanto afectan en la actualidad a la administración pública: soborno, dolo, enriquecimiento ilícito, extorsión, nepotismo, entre otros muchos. También se investigan las posibles causas y efectos de la corrupción. Asimismo, se toman en consideración las posibles medidas que pueden ayudar a combatir la corrupción. Se ilustra el análisis con una serie de texto de autores que han estudiado el tema. Nada es tan importante en la actualidad como la lucha por una sana administración y el combate contra la corrupción que tan gravemente la afecta.
